Kabir Bedi has been infamously renowned in the film industry for his cassanova nature and a total of multiple marriages till yet. Popularly known to be a ladies’ man, Kabir’s handsome looks used to make women go weak in their knees, and thus subsequently, it became the main reason behind his multiple marriages and a famous affair with actress, Parveen Babi. Interestingly, it was his first wife, Protima Bedi, who had once spilt beans about her then-husband’s affair with Parveen Babi and had controversially revealed how she was the one who pushed him for it.
Kabir Bedi’s scandalous affair with glamorous actress, Parveen Babi was one of the most hotly-debated gossip bits back in the 80s. It had gained even more momentum since Parveen was popularly vilified for being the home breaker between Kabir and his wife, Protima. Interestingly, things were in reality completely the opposite and it was Protima who had cleared the air about the same. In one of her controversial interviews, the talented classical dancer had revealed how her relationship with Kabir had almost ended when Parveen had entered the scene. In her words:
“I’ve never held Parveen responsible for breaking up my marriage. It happened long before she entered the scene. We have stopped being a man and a woman. Sex had finished between Kabir and me. My body was not his. I am a sensuous woman and Kabir did indulge me for seven years. He could take anything from me except unfaithfulness. And I was unfaithful to Kabir. When he finally left home to shack with Parveen, I was relieved! When Parveen came into his life Kabir was trying to escape from me”

In the same revelation, Protima Bedi grabbed eyeballs when she revealed that she was the one who had encouraged her husband to become involved in an affair with Parveen Babi, simply because she had finished her relationship with her then-husband and wanted him to be off her back at any cost. Moreover, she also mentioned how she made peace with Parveen and clearly informed her that she did not mind the former going out with her husband. Protima could be quoted as saying:
“It’s true that I encouraged Kabir and Parveen to have an affair and why not? I was then busy trying to untangle complications from my own life and wanted Kabir off my back. Kabir and I no longer attracted each other sexually. Why should I have been the dog, sorry bitch in the manger? Kabir needed a social outlet. It was at a party in my house that I saw them giving each other the vibes and I went out of my way to encourage them. Parveen came to me the next day and told me about it. I told her that I didn’t mind and they could go ahead. I wanted them to have fun.”
Setting quite unexpected standards, Kabir Bedi’s then-wife, Protima had not only allowed her husband to have an affair with another woman, but had rather warned the other woman not to make the mistake of getting serious with him. She had further mentioned how she was rendered disheartened when Kabir decided to move out of their home and start a live-in relationship with Parveen. She mentioned how she had rather thought that the three of them could perhaps live like a family. In her words:
“I told Parveen not to make the mistake of getting serious about Kabir. And then one day Kabir came and told me he would be spending all his nights with Parveen. He was moving out. The bloody fool. I gave him everything plus his freedom. He could have had his affairs. He could have done anything. He didn’t need to walk out on the kids and me. We could all have been one big family!”

For the unversed, after dating each other for some time, Parveen Babi had broken up with Kabir Bedi and had moved on with Mahesh Bhatt. And quite unusually, it was Kabir Bedi’s ex-wife, Protima Bedi, who had expressed her regrets on the same. In one of her earlier interviews at that time, she had revealed she considered it quite unexpected and had revealed that she even tried reaching out to Parveen after it. Moreover, she also highlighted what perhaps went wrong between Kabir and Parveen that led to their breakup. She had mentioned:
“I felt very sorry for Parveen and I mean very sincerely. I even wanted to ring her up what does one say under such circumstances? First of all, I think they overdid the beautiful side of relationship. They were in love, yes. I don’t deny it. I think I knew she was doing the wrong thing by trying to act possessive I tried to be so friendly but she was so rude. She resented Kabir spending any time with us. No woman should try to keep a man away from his family. No man likes it. Kabir was very understanding in the beginning. But I feel it must have finally started irritating him.”
