Justin Timberlake performed at the Grammys event for the first time since he was diagnosed with Lyme disease in July 2025. He shared the news via his Instagram handle for his fans after wrapping up the final performances of his tour, The Forget Tomorrow World Tour.
The 44-year-old singer performed to honour Pharrell Williams at the Recording Academy Honours presented by the Black Music Collective on January 29, 2026. William was honoured at the event with the Dr Dre Global Impact Award on Thursday.
Justin Timberlake and his wife had been focusing on his recovery ever since he concluded his tour in 2025 and was diagnosed with Lyme disease. In response to the diagnosis, Justin said:
“I’ve been battling some health issues and was diagnosed with Lyme disease — which I don’t say so you feel bad for me — but to shed some light on what I’ve been up against behind the scenes."
Justin also urged people that if anyone knows anyone who is suffering from Lyme disease should receive proper care, and that the person might be suffering both mentally and physically. Justin often experienced massive nerve pain, chronic fatigue, and sickness while performing on stage, and as much as he enjoyed performing on stage, he had to make the hard choice to stop touring and focus on his health, along with his wife, Jessica Biel. Jessica and Justin married in 2012, and they have two children. She has been a constant support for him throughout his sickness and in the journey of recovery.
Informing his fans about his diagnosis in an Instagram post, he wrote, “The joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going." Revealing that he was “reluctant" to talk about this because “I was always raised to keep something like this to yourself, but I am trying to be more transparent about my struggles so that they aren’t misinterpreted."

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks. A few people who are diagnosed and treated for Lyme can continue to have symptoms like tiredness, aches, and loss of energy; these symptoms can last for years. According to America’s Centres for Disease and control and Prevention, patients with Lyme, when diagnosed on time, can be treated with antibiotics and recover quickly and completely with no long-lasting symptoms. Singers like Shania Twain and Avril Lavigne, along with Justin Timberlake, have struggled with Lyme disease.
In September 2024, Justin pleaded guilty to driving while impaired as part of a plea deal to bring his drink and driving case to an end. He also faced criticism from fans for delivering some underwhelming performances during his 2 year world tour. Justin also faced backlash after a documentary on Britney Spears came out, and details of her relationship with Justin were revealed to the public.
