The celeb moms are no different when it comes to showcasing their love and care for their children, and Jaya Bachchan proves it just right! On Koffee With Karan season 6, Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda had commented on their mom, Jaya Bachchan’s hysterical videos of lashing out at the media, every now and then. While Abhishek finds the videos amusing and always prepares for a showdown when the whole family goes out together. Though Jaya ji has grown much more comfortable with the paparazzi, it’s the fans who ask for selfies are the problem. Defending her mom, Shweta had said, “She gets very claustrophobic when there are too many people around her. She also doesn’t like it when people take her pictures without asking her. She comes from that school of thought.”
Jaya Bachchan along with her children, Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda had attended the launch of sarod maestro, Amjad Ali Khan's sons, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash's new album, Infinity, which was held in Mumbai on September 6, 2019. A video from the same had gone viral on social media, wherein Abhishek was talking with a woman sitting beside Jaya ji and the doting mommy couldn’t resist when she noticed something on her son’s blazer. She immediately removed what was stuck to Abhishek’s blazer, distracting herself from the conversation. Shweta, who was sitting at the back, also had her attention to her mom and brother.
It was on April 09, 2019, when Jaya Bachchan had turned 71 and her star kids, Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan Nanda had taken to Instagram and had poured out heartfelt wishes for their mom. Sharing a beautiful mother-daughter picture of the duo, Shweta had written quoting the lines of a Walt Whitman poem, “O Captain My Captain”, whereas, Abhishek had posted a throwback picture of his mother and had captioned it as “Maa! (in hindi), The word says it all. Happy Birthday Ma. Love you.”
In an interview, Abhishek Bachchan had shared about his camaraderie with his mom. He had stated, “The mother-son relationship in this film is very real. I am very close to my mother. My dad is like my buddy; we have always had a friendly relationship. But mother-son don’t have the buddy relationship. My mother for me is like Maa, and that is sacred. Abhishek Bachchan had also shared in yet another interview about how mommy, Jaya Bachchan brought them up, “I was very naughty, that's what my mother tells me. But I feel most boys are that way growing up. Today's children are so mature, they are able to adapt so much more quickly than us or our parents. Each of us has a different journey of parenthood." Further sharing if Jaya ji was a strict mom, Abhishek had added, "Yes, mom was strict. She would hit me sometimes. But as soon as I grew up a bit, I was beyond her reach (smiles). Dad never even raised his voice, forget raising his hand. Just one look was enough to make us realise our mistake and vow never to repeat it.”
No matter how great an actor Abhishek Bachchan is, the super-stardom of his father, Amitabh Bachchan always comes in the way. Jaya Bachchan, in a throwback interview, had shed light on the same, "If he really has it in him, then he will overcome the towering figure (Amitabh). He must struggle in order to achieve. I know when Amit ji came (in the film industry) people used to say 'are you mad? Why are you working with this guy? He will never make it.' Same people who said this have worked with him, regularly, later." Jaya ji had continued, "Not only as mother but as student of cinema and acting I would like to see an actor, it can be Abhishek or anybody, who can really take on Amitabh Bachchan." She had added, "Why not? Somebody hopefully, better (than Amitabh)?"
In an interaction with Shoojit Sircar at a Ladies Study Group session titled, The Moods and Moments of Abhishek Bachchan, he had revealed a pact that his mother, Jaya Bachchan had made with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan before their marriage. Junior B had said, "I hate fruits! And being a boarding school kid, veggies are not at the top of my list. I'm pretty sure one of the pacts my wife and mom made when I got married was that she would get me to eat vegetables. So now she makes me eat broccoli."
Abhishek further added, "I don't know why anyone would mutate other vegetables and make something like broccoli?! The irony is that I was having this conversation with someone and just that afternoon, Aishwarya served me broccoli for lunch!"
