Jankee Parekh Praises 'Champion', Sufi For Being Resilient In His Surgery When He Was Two-Month-Old

It was in November 2020, when Nakuul Mehta and Jankee Parekh Mehta had announced the news of their pregnancy and on February 3, 2021, the couple was blessed with a forever souvenir of their quarantine 2020. Nakuul and Jankee's greatest adventure began when the stork visited them with their little bundle of joy, a son whom they have named Sufi. To announce the arrival of their son, Nakuul and Jankee posted a glimpse of their newborn's hand, holding his mommy's finger and the daddy-to-be holding his little one's tiny hand. The elated parents, Nakuul and Jankee had captioned their posts as "February 3, 2021 This is Us Grateful and sleepy in equal measure. *Ing: @jank_ee/@nakuulmehta & Him" respectively.

Two weeks after the birth of their son, Nakuul Mehta and Jankee Parekh Mehta announced the gender-neutral name of the newborn and the reason why they decided this name. Jankee posted a video and Nakuul shared two pictures, posing with colourful balloons and metallic foil ones, revealing the name 'Sufi'. Jankee captioned her video as "'Sufi' A name that we decided when I was 3 months pregnant for our to-be first born, irrespective of the gender. Sufi symbolises spirituality, art, philosophy, literature, soul, song and everything that we stand for. From the time you were born, you have filled up our lives and hearts with so much love & we just can’t get enough of you. Mamma & Dadaa love you #myforevervalentine @babysufim." Nakuul customised his caption given by Jankee, and changed the last line, which could be read as "From the time you were born, you have filled up our lives and hearts with so much love and if I'm allowed to customise this caption dictated by the Missus, sleepless nights @babysufim."

More than two months after the birth of Sufi, Jankee Parekh Mehta shared a heart-wrenching experience with her son when he was diagnosed with Bilateral lnguinal Hernia. Speaking of how the thought of having her little one undergoing surgery broke her heart, Jankee wrote, "Almost thought would not share this, but seeing so many of you open up your lives to me, I feel so much more courage to share my story, now. 3 weeks ago, our little ‘Sufi’ was diagnosed with Bilateral lnguinal Hernia & the doctors advised immediate surgical intervention. Inspite of it being a safe surgical procedure in infants, just the thought of having my little one having to undergo a surgery under general anesthesia broke my heart.

Revealing how she prepared her less than two-month-old son, Sufi for his day of surgery and how the little one reacted to his mother's teachings, Jankee Parekh Mehta continued, "The day I found out, tears wouldn’t stop. My next 3 nights went in preparing him for the procedure. What worried me was the fact that he had to fast for 4 hours before and 2 hours after surgery as he was going to be administered anesthesia. So until the day of the surgery, I would wake him up every night at 3 am, feed him & then time his sleep pattern making sure that he doesn’t wake up for the next 4.5 hours & if he did, I didn’t feed him immediately. My plan was to mimic the day of the surgery, so that his body clock gets trained for the procedure & he doesn’t wake up earlier & ask for milk. Besides that I kept talking to him about how he needs to sleep for longer on that day, how we are going to get through this together. He would keep staring at my face & listen attentively. Or atleast that’s what I thought."

Speaking of how her champ was, on the day of his surgery and praising the little one for being resilient, Jankee Parekh Mehta added, "Cut to the day of the surgery, the day when he turned 2 months. Sufi behaved exactly the way we planned. He slept till the time I handed him over to the surgeon in the OT. Post the surgery, when he woke up, the next whole hour I just spoke to him on how well he did, what a champ he’s been through it all & how he needs to wait just a little bit longer for milk. I was just amazed at how this boy who needs milk every 2 hours patiently waited for 7 hours in total before getting his feed. The smile on his face after he got milk was just priceless. Babies are a lot more resilient than we think. They understand & sense each & everything that we feel & communicate."

Concluding her note with the health update about her little champion and fighter, Sufi, Jankee Parekh Mehta wrote, "I truly believe my long chats with Sufi & our training helped him pass this exam with flying colours. The best gift that we can give our children is to teach them to be 'Happy and Fearless' inspite of all the challenges that life throws at them. P.S - My champion/my fighter Sufi is doing great and is perfectly healthy."
