One of the most anticipated movies, Border 2, was released on January 23, 2026, bringing an epic war saga back to the big screen. The sequel honours the incredible bravery of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1971 war. Border 2 highlights the combined strength of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Amid the stellar cast, Sunny Deol is the only one reprising his role from the 1997 film, Border.
Ever since the teaser for Border 2 was released, people have been curious whether Sunny Deol is reprising the much-loved role of 'Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri', as he did in the 1997 film, Border. He led the Indian Army during 1965 and 1971, fought the Haji Pir battle, and the Indo-Pak War.

In the film, Mona Singh plays Sunny Deol’s wife, and many quipped that Tabu was not cast in Border 2, despite being an integral part of the previous instalment. In an interview with IANS, producer Nidhi Dutta revealed the reason behind not casting Tabu in Border 2. She revealed that since Border 2 caters to a different battle from the 1971 war, only some of the actors are featured from the first part.

She also revealed that Sunny, who portrayed Tabu’s husband in the 1997 film, Border, plays a different character in Border 2. This was one of the main reasons Tabu was not cast in the film. In her words:
