'Finance with Harish' creator was just 27 years old when he took his own life after he was allegedly cyberbullied. V Harish was a well-known influencer with 1.3 million followers on his social media. The influencer would provide finance-related videos, tips and advice. However, things took a turn when, according to his father, a tech firm CEO began bullying him.
His death came as a shock to everyone. However, what further left everyone stunned was the fact that V Harish had taken the drastic step because of alleged cyberbullying. According to reports, the 'Finance with Harish' creator was found hanging at his rented villa in Chennai. The news of his death soon made headlines, with his followers expressing their grief over the young man's death.
While the tragedy had already left 'Finance with Harish' followers heartbroken, V Harish's father, Vinayagam, filed a police complaint with the Kanathur police station in Chennai against Jason Samuel. For those who are unfamiliar, Jason is the CEO of venture studio Zemuria Inc. In his complaint, the deceased's father alleged that Jason had posted a "defamatory video" against Harish.
The grieving father further added that the scrutiny following those videos was what forced his son to take the drastic step and end his life. According to reports, the police have since filed a case against Jason Samuel on the grounds of abetment to suicide.
What happened between V Harish and Jason Samuel?
According to reports, days before V Harish's death, YouTuber and Zemuria Inc. CEO, Jason Samuel, posted a video on his social media handle criticising the 'Finance with Harish' creator. In the video, Jason alleged that Harish was not a proper SEBI-registered Investment Advisor (RIA) or AMFI licensee and was defrauding the public by showing a fake license.
For those who are not familiar with the finance world, a SEBI-registered Investment Advisor (RIA) is a financial professional or firm licensed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to provide unbiased, fee-based financial planning under a strict legal fiduciary duty to put your interests first. After the video went viral, V Harish allegedly started receiving hate messages from his followers.
Soon after, reports claimed Harish's Instagram account was disabled, following which he started posting videos through a new account. After the news of his suicide broke, YouTuber Jason Samuel took to his social media account and shared that the incident has caused him extreme mental anguish. However, he asserted that he was not responsible for the bullying, as he only brought the truth to light. He was quoted as saying:
"The loss of a human life gives me great shock and deep mental anguish. However, I did not personally cyberbully him. I was only pointing out the illegal activity of him violating SEBI and AMFI rules and providing financial advice to the public with a fake license, in the interest of consumers. Pointing out a scam does not incite suicide."
