Before Death, Hayden Panettiere Talked About The Guilt She Felt Over Losing Her Brother 'I Miss Him'

The reason for her death has not been released; however, it was revealed that she was found in an unresponsive state at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16, 2026. An emergency dispatch audio hinted at a possible overdose. Additionally, authorities confirmed there was no foul play.
Hayden's passing came as a shock to her fans and close ones. Her family has also been struck by another tragedy since 2023, when Hayden's brother, Jansen, passed away. Hayden Panettiere’s father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, reportedly had just started recovering from the pain that came along with Jansen's passing, and he was struck by the recent shocking episode of Hayden's demise. Hayden, only two months ago, spoke about losing her brother and the guilt she carried for the same.

In an interview with E! Online, Hayden Panettiere talked about the grief she had, caused by the tragic passing of her brother. She mentioned that the grief was evolving. She stated that it was just hard for her, as she felt that, as a sibling, she couldn't do what she should have done, but what caused her brother's demise couldn't be controlled.
To mention, Hayden's brother, Jansen, passed away in February 2023. Jansen was 28 years old, and his demise was caused by cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart), coupled with aortic valve complications. It was really hard for Hayden to sit and talk about her brother while she was writing her memoir. The actress admitted missing her brother all the time, while revealing that she never thought that she would live a life without him. Sharing more about the same, Hayden said:
“It just evolves, and especially with a sibling and being the older sibling, you're just riddled with guilt that you didn't do your job, and especially what took him was something that I, of all people, should have understood. The hardest part was talking about my brother. I miss him all the time. I didn't think I would have to do life without him, but I'm grateful that I had the time I had with him.”
In the same interview, Hayden Panettiere revealed that she always saw signs of her brother, but she didn't indulge in them too much, knowing how the brain could play tricks. Hayden further mentioned that her brother was an incredible artist, and the best thing that she had of him was his art. Hayden shared that she felt her brother was alive through his paintings. Hayden could be quoted as saying:
“He was an incredible artist, and my favorite thing that I have are his paintings, and I feel like he's so alive in those paintings, like that part of him is immortalized because of the part of himself that he put into his art."

For the unversed, just like Hayden, her brother, Jansen, was also an artist and was seen in projects like Even Stevens, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Robots, and The Walking Dead, following which he worked as a painter.
Speaking about losing her brother, in another interview with PEOPLE, Hayden said that she felt that she lost half of her soul. She referred to her brother as her 'other half' while mentioning that she gained 40 pounds due to the stress that followed. Hayden later realised that it was her body's way of protecting her from the world. She also added that she would always be heartbroken over her brother's death and would never be able to get over it.
