An autopsy report revealed that there were no signs of foul play; however, conversation surrounding Hayden's passing has been ongoing for several days. Hayden was reportedly last seen with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson.
The couple was together during the time Hayden passed away, and they were accompanied by Brian's brother Zach on the day she breathed her last. Hayden and Brian had a tumultuous relationship for 4-5 years, and following her death, the attention shifted to their personal life, with reports claiming that the on-and-off couple reconnected before her death. Hayden's mom, Lesley Vogel, openly criticised Brian Hickerson following her daughter's death as well, and amid all this, TMZ released a photo of Brian that showed him in a questionable state just before his arrest, a year earlier, in 2025.

Hayden Panettiere and Brian Hickerson's relationship began in 2018, after they allegedly met through mutual friends, shortly after the actress called off her engagement to her former fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko. They soon started dating; however, what followed was a series of downfalls in their relationship, including domestic violence cases and arrests.
Brian had been arrested several times, and recently TMZ released a photo from last year showing him 'behaving erratically' at Barney's Beanery in West Hollywood. In the photo that went viral, Brian was sitting under a table barefoot, while a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy stood nearby. Sources revealed to TMZ that Brian arrived at Barney's and seemed to be under the influence of something, and he was behaving erratically.
According to the sources, Brian broke a glass at the bar and even threw his shoe at a guest, who was eating at the restaurant. Because of his erratic behaviour, Brian was asked to leave the restaurant; however, he was allegedly freaking out, and the security was not able to take him out, leading the cops to intervene.
Following this, law enforcement arrived at the place; Brian was removed from Barney's and was arrested. The owner revealed to TMZ recently that Brian was not banned from there and was allowed to return. No charges were filed against Brian regarding this particular case due to a lack of evidence. However, only four days later, Brian was arrested again for being under the influence of a controlled substance, a case that was dismissed after his 10 Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
Brian Hickerson recalled turning 'abusive' to Hayden Panettiere
In 2019, Brian was charged with a domestic violence case, while a year later, in 2020, he was again charged with 8 additional counts. In 2021, Brian was sentenced to 45 days in jail for pleading no contest to two felony counts of injuring a spouse. Along with that, he was sentenced to 4 years of formal probation, 52 mandatory domestic violence classes, a 500 dollar fine, and a 5-year protective order.
It was a few months back, during Hayden's release of her memoir, when Brian spoke about turning 'abusive' towards Hayden. He recalled one incident, which he wanted Hayden not to reveal, but she did anyway. He shared that he had a phone in his hand and was drunk. Hayden was present in the room, and Brian addressed her, saying she had only 10 seconds to run before he would throw the phone at her. Sharing how it felt to read about it, Brian said:
"Who wants to read something about themselves, right? But you gotta be vulnerable and I did it. I did it, so.”
