Lionel Richie was 'struggling' towards the end of his St. Louis show, What happened to him?
Grammy-winning musician Lionel Richie checked himself into a local hospital after his St. Louis concert, which took place at The Muny in Forest Park. He felt some health issues towards the end of his show and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for an immediate checkup. The doctors reportedly ran some tests on him to determine the cause of his latest medical emergency.
Witnesses to Lionel's deteriorating health told TMZ that he seemed to be "struggling" towards the end of his St. Louis concert. They further stated that the singer asked his team for a chair so he could sit while performing his final song, All Night Long. As to what happened to the 77-year-old, doctors haven't released a conclusive statement yet, but available reports suggest that they are looking into possible slight dehydration.
Reports also claimed that Lionel Richie and his doctors are being very cautious, and he is expected to be discharged on September 1, 2026. Thus, the singer seems to be in better condition at present.
Lionel Richie fell ill on stage during a June 2026 concert as well
August 29, 2026, was not the first time Lionel Richie fell ill while performing on stage. Just two months before, a similar situation arose when he was forced to abruptly end the opening night of his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. At that time, Lionel sat down mid-performance as he felt "dizzy" and "strange." He was then treated by paramedics, but his condition didn't get better.
Lionel's saxophonist, Dino Soldo, told the audience that the Grammy winner would be unable to complete the show. After that, he was taken to the hospital, and the United Centre in Chicago released a statement informing the public that Lionel Richie would have to postpone two scheduled shows due to his health.
As per the doctor's advice, the Hello singer "postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH," and he returned to the stage on June 30, 2026, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A week after Lionel Richie's hospitalization, his ex-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie, shared an update on his health. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that the singer was doing better and would be back to performing on stage soon. She wrote:
"Thanking everyone for their concern! Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage."
Lionel has performed at his scheduled shows since June 30, 2026; however, on August 29, 2026, he again faced health issues, which led him to the hospital for the second time in over two months. Currently, it is not known if he will perform the rest of his tour concerts on their scheduled dates or if there will be any postponements. His fans are praying for his speedy recovery and hoping he'll be back on stage soon.
