Harsh Chhaya and Shefali Shah, two of the most talented actors in the Hindi film industry were married back in 1994. The duo had crossed paths during some of their shows together, a time when both of them were just pass outs from the theatre school. However, due to irreconcilable differences, they called it quits and got divorced in 2000. Fast forward to now, both Harsh and Shefali have moved miles away in their lives. While Harsh got married to Bengali actress, Suneeta Gupta, Shefali, on the other hand, is married filmmaker, Vipul Amrutlal Shah.
In a recent interaction with Sidharth Kannan, Harsh Chhaya walked down memory lane and revisited his divorce from his first-wife and actress, Shefali Shah. After so many years having gone by, the actor remarked that their separation was a tough ordeal. Moreover, he added that it is an old story now, and that particular chapter of his life has been closed for him now. He expressed:
“The separation was pretty tough. Itni puraani kahani hai. Itna samay beet gaya hai…bees pachees saal ho gaye hain. For me, it is a closed chapter.”

Moving forth in the conversation, Harsh Chhaya was asked whether he was still in contact with his ex-wife, Shefali Shah. To this, the 57-year-old actor remarked that they aren’t exactly friends to one another. He added that though they aren’t on talking terms with one another, nevertheless, he wouldn’t feel awkward if they bumped into one another one fine day. In his words:
“No, we are not friends. I don’t have an issue talking to her, so if we bump into each other, I wouldn’t get uncomfortable.”
Previously, in one of his interviews with The Hindustan Times, Harsh Chhaya had explained how from the very starting, he could sense that his marriage with Shefali Shah wouldn’t last long, and he ended up sensing it for nearly eight months prior to finally calling it quits. Referring to how he retrospects the entire episode very pragmatically, the actor said:
“It hurt. The separation didn’t take me by surprise. I had seen it coming for almost eight months. still look back at it very pragmatically. Two people met, fell in love, got married and parted ways. One couldn’t do anything about it. I felt it was better to separate than live a life where you don’t know where your marriage is going. After feeling bad and gathering enough sympathy for myself, I finally got out of it in six months.”

Earlier, while speaking to Pinkvilla, Shefali Shah revealed her side of the story about her failed marriage with ex-husband, Harsh Chhaya. The actress remarked that she gave her everything to that relationship and worked very hard towards it. However, Shefali added that she had realised how perfect marriages do not exist in reality, when she saw her own marriage crumble down. She further mentioned that all during her previous marriage, she was just utterly invested in making her partner happy and satisfied, and not leaving behind a second thought for herself.
