Govinda and his wife, Sunita Ahuja, are experiencing marital discord and airing their dirty laundry in public. Sunita sat down for an interview with Curly Tales and spoke about her favourite actor Dharmendra. She shared that when she was expecting Yashvardhan, she didn't want him to look like the Hero No.1 actor. Sunita had kept the snaps of Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan in her bedroom. This was when she was expecting her son. Sunita stated:
"Dharam ji hamesha se. Maine Dharam ji ko show mei bola bhi tha mei sochti thi aapse shaadi karu. He is so handsome, baapre. I told this also maine jab Yash ko conceive kia tha, maine Govinda ki shakal dekhi hi nahi hogi. Meko tere shakal ka nai chahiye. I like Dharam ji and Amitabh's personality. Maine un dono ka photo lagaya tha bedroom mein. Mei ekdam Bandra girl and yeh ekdam ghati Virar boy. Mera Yash 6 feet hai."

Sunita Ahuja has always been proud of her upbringing in a posh area of Bandra, Mumbai. However, some netizens have been disheartened that Sunita did not want her son to look like Govinda. Slamming her, a user said, "Yeh aurat kya khali Bandra girl Bandra girl bolti rehti hain usse kya hota hain. Govinda apne time ka sabse handsome actor tha. Imagine if Govinda said he doesn’t want the daughter to look like her."
Another Govinda fan commented, "Is this the accent of a ‘Bandra Girl’. With his talent, Govinda is now at new heights... look what he achieved. You were born into a good family; it isn't your greatness nor your talent. Govinda is talented and great both. Sunita ji, you don't miss a single opportunity to degrade Govinda's standards; that's not good."

Govinda's wife, Sunita, has often called her son a self-made, independent boy. She has often stated that Govinda gave no assistance to Yashvardhan when he tried to enter the movie industry. In an interview with Miss Malini, Sunita shared:
"Yash is a self-made boy. He hasn’t taken help from his father. He has given 90 auditions, being Govinda’s son. He didn’t ask Govinda to call anyone. Govinda also never helped Yash. I told Govinda to his face, 'tu baap hai ki kya hai? If you won’t help our kids, who will?’ See Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff- how they all are supporting their sons."
