They had delivered an array of entertaining films such as Raja Babu, Coolie No 1, Hero No 1 and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. After 17 movies, their collaboration ended, and Govinda recently revealed the exact reason behind the same.
Govinda blames David Dhawan for their fallout, says he didn't want to do the 18th film together
Govinda and filmmaker David Dhawan's movies had immense comedy and peppy music, apart from his unmatched comedy timing. Govinda and David Dhawan had great comedy timing, and now, after years, the actor revealed the real reason behind not working with David. Govinda stated that he wanted to do more movies with David Dhawan but felt that the director did not want to work with him. In an interview with ANI, Govinda shared:
"We did 17 films together. David is like a God's child. Jis waqt use aisa laga ki samay aa gaya hai ki main Govinda ke saath aur aage nahi badh paunga, woh theher gaye. I wanted us to do an 18th and also a 19th film together, but he didn't do it. So I felt that he was going according to his thinking. I never had any doubt about it."
Govinda shared that David Dhawan felt they could not proceed ahead with making films
Govinda and David Dhawan had a successful run together, and the actor shared that David had felt that he could not move ahead with the actor. Govinda revealed that David was acting as per what he thought was correct. He also claimed that he used to get upset with Dhawan occasionally. In the words of Govinda:
"Sometimes I used to get upset with him. I used to call him, and he would understand. Even now when my topic comes up, he starts crying. He is sincere. He is a good guy."
Their fans were very disappointed that the duo had stopped collaborating. Redditors had earlier said that Govinda has problems with most in the industry. They said that he was unprofessional and did not even improve by 1 percent. A comment read, "What about his own history of unprofessionalism? If he could improve himself by even 1 percent, then half of his problems would disappear. Yes exactly. He never valued people and time. He should have accepted the fact that his monotonous roles were affecting his career."
Netizens also felt that success had got over Govinda's head and he was known to be unprofessional. His career was on the downswing, and he just decided to try his luck in politics. When his films started to flop in the early 2000s, he switched gears to politics instead of doing smaller roles in A-grade cinema.
He was offered Devdas, Taal and Biwi No. 1. He refused all 3, which later became superhits. Govinda had also revealed reaching out to David Dhawan before his latest film. Govinda had said, "Abhi jab unki film aane se pehle phone kiya tha. Mujhe laga unse mulaqat karni chahiye. Unhone release ke baad mujhe call kiya and kaha ki tu apni taklif se bahar nikal."
Govinda further in the interview spoke about his collaboration with Kader Khan and called it the most memorable phase of his career. Govinda and Kader Khan's comic timing was unmatched, and Govinda remembered his dialogues and chemistry with Kader Khan. In his words:
"It was because of Kader Khan that I understood the pre-programming. He used to perform in the same tune. That was his performance. So it took some time, but when he came to know how I work, he fell in love with me. He started loving me a lot."
