Genelia Deshmukh Reacts To The Rumours About Hubby, Riteish Making Her Quit Movies Post Wedding

In a recent interview, Genelia Deshmukh opened up about the ongoing rumours about her husband, Riteish Deshmukh being the reason behind her hiatus from acting.

Bollywood actress, Genelia Deshmukh is happily married to actor, Riteish Deshmukh, and the duo is hailed as one of the cutest couples in Tinseltown. They never fail to leave their fans amazed with some of their funniest videos on social media. While Genelia has done noteworthy films in Tollywood and Bollywood, she was seen in lesser films after her marriage, and rumours were rife that her husband, Riteish Deshmukh might have asked her to quit acting.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Genelia Deshmukh clarified that taking a hiatus from acting was her personal choice and that there was no pressure from her husband, Riteish. Talking about the same, Genelia said that though she is enjoying both phases of her life, people still say that Riteish made her quit acting. She added that she enjoys spending time with her kids and added:

“People say what they want to say but the truth of the matter is that I decided. To date like people say ‘Why don’t you do so much more work?’ I don’t feel I can do so much work but I feel I still enjoy that whole part of being with my kids."

Further in the interview, Genelia Deshmukh clarified that she will do whatever she wants to do. However, she added that she doesn't look for validation like she has to be part of a particular banner. Genelia added that she has to prepare to be a part of a story that impressed her the day she read the script. She said:

"I want to do that, I want to do this, I’ll choose when I want to do what. And the good part is that no one looks for validation like I have to be part of this banner. I have to prepare, I have to be part of a story that impressed me the day I read the script.”

In an earlier appearance on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s talk show, What Women Want, Riteish Deshmukh and his wifey, Genelia Deshmukh revealed the reason why the latter took a long career break after her marriage. The doting husband said that though there is a responsibility for what the family does, they make sure to take their own decisions. Riteish further added that there is an equal degree of respect in his relationship that he would never tell Genelia what to do. In his words:

“I think in our whole family there could be certain perception because of the political position my father held that oh, you come from a certain family, but for us, it’s me, Genelia and the kids, extended family. I think there is equal amount of respect that whatever Genelia wants to do, it’s her decision. I will never ever tell her what to do. And she respects my decisions also."

Riteish and Genelia had met for the test shoot of their debut film, Tujhe Meri Kasam, 20 years back. Initially, they had started their journey as friends, which had gradually turned into love. They had dated each other for nine years, and finally, on February 3, 2012, Genelia and Riteish had got married. The couple is blessed with two boys, Riaan Deshmukh, who was born in 2014, and Rahyl Deshmukh, who was born in 2016. Since then, the family of four has been living the best of their lives, and glimpses of the same are found on their social media handles.

On the work front, Genelia Deshmukh will be next seen in Aleya Sen’s directorial, Trial Period, which will release on July 21, 2023, on Jio Cinema.
