Former Cricketer, Vinod Kambli Is At Risk Of Brain Stroke, His Friend Says, 'Formed Whatsapp Group'

Former Indian cricketer, Vinod Kambli is once again making headlines, but this time for his health. For the unversed, the veteran cricketer is at a high risk of a brain stroke, and his situation reportedly can worsen if he is not taken care of. A recent report also claims that Vinod’s friends, including legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev have stepped in to help him financially during the treatment.

Vinod Kambli has a clot in his brain

Recently, Vinod Kambli’s close friend, Marcus Couto sat down for a candid conversation with Hindustan Times Digital, during which he revealed details about the former Indian cricketer’s health. Marcus stated that Vinod has a clot in his brain, which now cannot be removed as he did not take proper precautions earlier. Marcus was quoted as saying:

"Vinod has a clot in his brain, which cannot be removed because he did not take precautions early. And the doctor has suggested that he could have a brain stroke. Because of his willpower, he is conjuring whatever he can."

Further, Marcus Conto revealed that he has created a Whatsapp group which includes several cricketers, who donate money for Vinod Kambli. Eventually, that money is used for the treatment. Apart from this, Marcus opened up about Vinod’s drinking and smoking habit. He explained that even though he has left drinking alcohol, he continues to smoke without knowing the damage it can cause. In his words:

"I have formed a WhatsApp group including his friends – mostly cricketers – and without taking names, they contribute a lot financially. He has stopped drinking, but sometimes when he goes down, he asks those passing by to help him with a smoke. He would ask auto drivers for a cigarette, and they would gladly oblige, thinking they’re helping ‘The Vinod Kambli’. But they don’t realise what harm they are causing. The damage is now not to his heart, liver or kidney; it’s his brain. It causes imbalance."

Vinod Kambli’s health is improving as he is able to walk now

During the same conversation, Vinod Kambli’s friend also revealed that the former’s health has improved in the past few months. He explained that six months ago, Vinod appeared in an advertisement for Dinshaw’s ice cream. He also stated that earlier Vinod used to take support from furniture to walk, but now his friends have gifted him a stick, which he uses to walk. Cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar is also available at any time for him. 

Vinod Kambli’s treatment was once stopped due to lack of money

During the same candid conversation with Hindustan Times Digital, Vinod’s friend, Marcus also shared the dark side of the treatment. He stated that at one point Vinod was admitted in Breach Candy Hospital and he had nearly recovered. However, his treatment was stopped due to lack of money. Marcus explained that even though a few friends helped, the funds weren’t enough. Marcus was quoted as saying:

"When he was treating him at Breach Candy, Vinod had recovered nearly 60 per cent. But since we were short on funds, we couldn’t keep him there for long. One friend sponsored his one day’s expenses turn by turn. Finally, we had to leave the hospital. Every time a friend would sponsor for 3 days or 5 days. But how can they do it every day? We were even suggested to take him to a general hospital, but it’s very difficult there. I don’t think he is going to recover, but even if he stays stable, we are more than happy. He should not deteriorate."
