Norway head coach Stale Solbakken's wife, Anniken battled tough times with him when his heart had just stopped. It was on March 13, 2001, when Stale's heart stopped beating for seven minutes after he had a cardiac arrest. Yes, he reportedly died for seven minutes in 2001. Stale then came back to life after he was declared 'clinically dead'. It was his wife, Anniken, who stood by him for 30 years.

It was in March 2001 when Stale was playing for FC Copenhagen. He had collapsed on the training pitch after suffering a massive heart attack. Stale was clinically dead for seven minutes before he was resuscitated by the paramedics. His wife, Anniken, did not leave his side and, in an interview with the Drivkraft podcast, revealed:

"I remember seeing a blue light and then a tunnel. I remember thinking that I would like to stay there a little longer. My parents flew to Denmark straight away. I was told that on the plane my mum started planning my funeral. At first they worried whether I would survive, then whether my brain would be damaged. Those were the thoughts that tormented my family and team-mates, who witnessed me collapsing, dying and being brought back to life."

Stale Solbakken was unconscious for nearly 26 hours, and he was placed on life support when admitted to the hospital. When his family came to know about the incident, his mom had already made plans related to organising his funeral. Stale was placed in a medically induced coma in order to protect his brain.

Stale Solbakken remembered how his heart had stopped when he had gone for his regular training

Stale Solbakken had earlier revealed in a Netflix documentary called Norway: The Dark Horse that it was a normal morning when he drove his eldest to kindergarten and went to training. He had revealed, "forty minutes into training, my heart just stopped." Stale Solbakken had further revealed that the coincidence was so great that there was a doctor at the facility that day, which was rare at that time. That way, he got the treatment he needed before he was ‘kicked’ back into action. Stale was in a coma for three days, and when he woke up, his short-term memory was gone.

When netizens came to know about Stale Solbakken suffering from a heart attack on May 13, 2001, they expressed concern. A user credited how Stale was rapidly attended to by the club doctor, Frank Odgaard, who found that Solbakken's heart had stopped beating. Odgaard asked a player to call an ambulance and tell them it was critical while he continued to perform cardiac massage. The Redditor revealed:

"Upon the ambulance's arrival, Solbakken was pronounced clinically dead at the scene. On the way to the hospital in the ambulance, he was revived nearly seven minutes later. He survived the episode and now has a pacemaker fitted. The heart attack was the result of a previously undetected heart defect. Shortly after, on medical advice, Solbakken announced his retirement from playing."

Stale Solbakken and his wife, Anniken, are parents to three children. His eldest son, Sondre, reportedly is aged 29 and lives a private life in Oslo. Sondre is married to Emilie and has a daughter called Eva. Stale and Anniken's younger son called Markus who is a professional footballer and has created his career in the IT industry. On the other hand, Stale and Anniken's middle child, Markus, was born back in 2000. Markus has followed in her dad's footsteps by becoming a professional football player.
