The TODAY correspondent shared that she and Pat are expecting their first baby. Emilie told her TODAY colleagues, Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer, that she is five months along.
The journalist revealed that she is due in January 2027 and that she and Pat have not yet decided whether they are having a girl or a boy. The couple has embraced parenthood for the first time, and now the spotlight has been on the love story of Emilie and Pat. Ikeda had also shared snaps of herself and her husband Pat, who were seen holding the ultrasound pictures.

Emilie and Pat have always kept their relationship out of the media glare. The NBC correspondent had earlier shared that she and Pat had spent a decade in a long-distance relationship. It was not at all easy for both of them to live apart as they faced a lot of loneliness amid emotional goodbyes.
Emilie has often shared that the long distance made them realise how much time they could spend together. Everything fell into place when the couple decided to get married in 2022. Emilie's husband has maintained a very private profile and has always supported her.

In the weeks leading up to her wedding, Emilie had taken the promise to stand by Pat through all the trials and tribulations, in sickness and in health. The pair's wedding came up suddenly and with an unexpected twist. Emilie recollected how a snake bit her husband during their stay at a rental home. In her words:
"Little did I know a test of such promises would strike early. The night before the wedding, Pat and I spent time with family in a breathtaking rental home on a peak in the Smoky Mountains. After sunset, we headed to our car with full hearts and butterflies in our stomachs to go to our respective cabins, in keeping with tradition. Walking on a dimly lit path, suddenly I saw Pat jump and grab his ankle. He assumed it was a very angry hornet. Following a few steps behind him, I knew it was worse. A snake slithered away."
Emilie had rushed to take a closer look at the snake's fang marks on Pat's ankle. It had bitten him just above his leather shoe, and she had seen the snake slither away after biting Pat. Emilie then took a picture of the snake to identify its species. Pat was not much in pain, and she shared:
"The triangle-shaped head gave it away. A copperhead. This couldn’t be happening, I told myself. Pat spends every spare moment in the outdoors, and yet, he’s bitten by a snake on a walkway the night before our wedding?!"
Before the wedding, Pat had to spend around 12 hours under medical observation. His ankle grew numb, and the nurse who looked after Pat shared that she had last treated a snakebite five to six years ago. He got discharged in time for their wedding ceremony, and Emilie shared:
"Dressed to the nines from our rehearsal dinner, we quickly became a spectacle. Even we could laugh at the timing of such an unbelievable incident, but that was before we learned how long we’d be spending there."
Speaking of the couple, Emilie and Pat cannot wait to find out more about the sex of their baby. She thinks that in a world where there is a lot of instant information, there are few genuine surprises, and this feels like the ultimate surprise.
