'Ek Din' Ending Explained, What Lies Ahead Of Dino And Meera As She Experiences Memory Loss?

Ek Din, the highly anticipated film of Aamir Khan Productions, has now been released on OTT. Yes, you read it right. The film starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan in lead roles hit the theatres two months back on May 1, 2026. It was Sai Pallavi’s Hindi film debut. According to reports, Ek Din is the Hindi remake of the Thai film, One Day. Now that Ek Din is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, here’s how the romantic drama ends.

What happens in the film, Ek Din?

Ek Din follows two poles-apart characters, 'Dinesh' a.k.a 'Dino' (played by Junaid Khan) and 'Meera' (played by Sai Pallavi). The two work in the same office. While 'Dino' is shy and introverted, 'Meera' is vibrant and bubbly. 'Dino' secretly likes 'Meera' but is too shy to confess his feelings to her. But 'Meera' likes her boss, 'Nakul', who is going through a messy divorce.

In fact, both 'Meera' and 'Nakul' are in a relationship. Things begin to change unexpectedly when 'Meera' and Dino' go on a trip with their colleagues to Japan. Upon reaching there, 'Dino' impulsively wishes for one day in which 'Meera' will be his girlfriend under a mystical fortune bell. The twist in the tale comes when 'Meera' gets diagnosed with Transient Global Amnesia (TGA).

Just hours before her TGA diagnosis, 'Meera' suffers a head injury during a snow accident following a messy breakup from 'Nakul'. At the time, 'Meera' discovers that 'Nakul' has been lying about his impending divorce when his wife suddenly shows up. Due to the accident, 'Meera' gets diagnosed with TGA, causing her memory to reset every 24 hours. The group returns to India, and 'Meera' and 'Dino' stay back in Japan due to her treatment.

After consulting doctors, 'Dino' gets to know that 'Meera's' TGA is incurable. However, 'Dino' is hopeful and instead of losing hope, he introduces himself as a stranger to 'Meera' every morning. While 'Meera's' memory erases every 24 hours, deep inside she feels safe and comfortable around 'Dino'. He makes every effort, from taking her to dates again and again to making her fall in love every day. He chooses her even if she forgets him every 24 hours.

Ek Din ending explained

The film doesn’t end with the typical theme that love cures illness. Instead, it shows that love cannot erase 'Meera's' TGA. It is pure love that helps both 'Dino' and 'Meera' to keep going. 'Dino's' constant efforts and patience, and 'Meera's' subconscious feelings keep their relationship alive. But there has been one thing that 'Meera' discovers one day. A video recording she made for herself to remember things. And she also discovers some journals. In the video recording, 'Meera' could find herself telling her future self to trust 'Dino' as he truly loves her.
