The story of Chand Mera Dil kicks off with twenty-one-year-olds 'Chandni Prasad' (played by Ananya Panday) and 'Aarav Rawat' (played by Lakshya). The duo crosses paths at their Hyderabad engineering college. It is love at first sight. They connect over dance.

'Aarav', who is a chain smoker and smokes three cigarettes in one go to release stress, is a brilliant student. 'Chandni' is also a good student. However, as they grow up, reality strikes hard.
Chand Mera Dil ending explained (Spoiler alert)
As 'Chandni' and 'Aarav' romance deepens, the former discovers that she is pregnant. She tells the pregnancy news to 'Aarav'. However, instead of accepting it in a glad way, he gets overwhelmed as he believes that they are far too young to become parents. And he worries that the baby would destroy their dreams and ambitions and thus convinces 'Chandni' to opt for abortion.
Initially, 'Chandni' agrees, but as she reaches the hospital, she finds herself unable to go through with the procedure and decides to keep the baby. Knowing 'Chandni's' decision not to abort, 'Aarav' gets tensed, but ultimately he chooses to stand beside 'Chandni'. Hoping that their families might agree to their union, both 'Aarav' and 'Chandni' open up about their romance and the pregnancy. Instead of receiving understanding and support, the duo faces rejection from their families.
Later, 'Aarav' and 'Chandni's' friends help them, and they get married. But as they move into a modest home and try to build a life together while preparing for the arrival of their child, financial struggles creep in, making their lives worse. As 'Chandni' struggles to get a high-paying job and 'Aarav' succumbs to working at an IT start-up, one day everything goes wrong. After a heated conversation, 'Aarav' hits 'Chandni' and the latter decides to get a divorce from the former.

Realising his mistake, 'Aarav' begs for 'Chandni's' forgiveness, but she is adamant and is not at all fine with accepting the disrespect. They awkwardly begin co-parenting their daughter, 'Kavya'. Meanwhile, 'Chandni' begins a relationship with her colleague 'Kevin.' Time passes, and one day 'Chandni' reveals to 'Aarav' that she is planning to get married to 'Kevin'. Knowing this makes 'Aarav' heartbroken, and he finally decides to let 'Chandni' move on by deciding to pursue future studies in the US.
From the US, 'Aarav' continues to virtually stay connected with both his daughter, 'Kavya', and his estranged wife, 'Chandni'. Things begin changing unexpectedly when 'Aarav' returns to India and he and 'Chandni' meet at their college reunion. At the time, 'Chandni' realises that she still loves 'Aarav' and also confesses it to him. After an emotional breakdown, 'Aarav' and 'Chandni' decide to give their relationship a second chance. The film ends with the couple’s happily ever after.
