Dharmendra Said 'My Son Is Special' When Shekhar Kapur Suggested Delaying Bobby Deol's Debut Film

Bobby Deol is one of the popular actors in Bollywood. Following his father, the legendary actor, Dharmendra's footsteps, he made his acting debut in the film, Barsaat, in 1995. Later, he went on to work in popular films like Soldier, Badal, Apne, Race 3, Yamla Pagla Deewana and many more. Recently, Bobby made his OTT debut with the web series, Aashram and he garnered a lot of success for the same. Now, in a recent interview, the actor opened up about his debut film and revealed how his father stood like a pillar of strength for him during that time.

Bobby Deol reveals his father, Dharmendra asked Shekhar Kapur to leave Barsaat when he wanted to delay it

In a candid conversation with Mashable's, The Bombay Journey, Bobby Deol opened up about his debut film, Barsaat. Talking about the same, the actor recalled the time when the film was in the making and revealed that initially, it was supposed to be directed by Shekhar Kapur. Elaborating more about it, Bobby mentioned that Shekhar had even shot for the film for the first 20 days. However, later, he requested his father to delay it as he got a call from Hollywood to make Bandit Queen. In his words:

"Shekhar Kapur was supposed to direct Barsaat. He shot for it 27-30 days also. But then he got a call from Hollywood to make Bandit Queen. It was a big moment for him. So, he wanted to delay my film and complete his film."

Further, in the same conversation, Bobby revealed that his father, Dharmendra stood like a pillar of strength for him at that time. Elaborating more about it, the actor mentioned that despite Shekhar Kapur's request, his father didn't agree and asked the director to leave. Stating how Dharmendra said that for him, his son is special, Bobby said:

"But, for papa, my film was very important. So, he told Shekhar, tu jaa, do what you want to do. For me, my son is special, and for you, Hollywood is special."

Bobby opens up about being frustrated after it took 2 years to make Barsaat

Further, Bobby revealed that Shekhar Kapur told him that he always wanted to direct the former. The actor mentioned that his debut film got delayed because it took them two years to make it. Mentioning how frustrating it was for him, he said that he was angry. In his words:

"It took two years to make the film. I don't know why it took so much time back then to make a film. I started it when I was 22/23, and it was released when I turned 26. It made me angry, but I guess that's how life is."

When Bobby revealed that he turned to alcohol during the low phase of his life

Bobby Deol and his brother, Sunny Deol appeared on the Koffee With Karan 8. During the show, the actor opened up about the lowest phase of his life. Talking about the same, Bobby shared that after constant rejections, he started pitying himself. Mentioning how he turned to alcohol during that time, the actor mentioned that he became negative about everything in his life. Bobby shared that he was jobless, and his wife, Tanya used to run the home.
