Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleDeewana was released on June 19, 2026, and has been making headlines for its twisted plot. The film stars Harshith Reddy, Smeha Manimegalai, VK Naresh, and Jhansi, and was written and directed by Sreekanth Sangishetty. These days, youthful love stories are gradually finding their audience and are being compared to films such as Youth and Vazha 2. Let's see if the film has managed to stand out from others. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Deewana follows the story of 'Munna', an intermediate dropout from a lower-income family in Hyderabad, who spends his days enjoying life with his friends. However, things take a turn when he visits a Mee Seva centre to pay bills; he is left enchanted by the sight of a woman named 'Ammu' and instantly falls for her. Nonetheless, despite his relentless wooing, 'Ammu' rejects him.

Nonetheless, seeing his persistence, she issues a challenge: she will consider his proposal only if he secures a government job, adding the condition that he will not meet or contact her until then. However, it doesn't take him long to realise how difficult these exams were, and his limited qualifications only made them worse. As he struggles to transform his life, he encounters unexpected truths that change everything.

Harshith Reddy's portrayal of 'Munna' is the realist aspect of Deewana. He delivers a convincing performance as an irresponsible youngster. The film beautifully portrays how he gradually grows up as he faces life's challenges. He is natural in both the carefree and emotional parts, and his delivery of dialogue was on point. Smeha Manimegalai also leaves us in awe of her acting, and her mesmerising beauty enhances the film. Naresh and Jhansi are excellent as the hero's parents.

Venu Yeldandi makes his presence felt despite appearing in one episode. Music has to be one of the film's strongest suits. The songs are not just catchy but also memorable. Tracks like Tella Pori, Idi Prema and Dostulam stand out beautifully, and some tunes evoke shades of Arjun Reddy. However, that remains effective within the narrative of Deewana. The cinematography was okay, capturing the gullies of Hyderabad authentically. However, the second half of the film fails to match the first.

Deewana begins like any typical youthful romance, focused on a carefree youngster chasing a girl. While the early portions feature comedy and local humour, making the film seem familiar at first, the narrative shifts over time. The hero's one-sided love, his encounters with the police, and the gradual shift in tone suggest that the film aims for something beyond a conventional love story. Nonetheless, the twist before the interval is what truly sets things into perspective. What initially appears to be a predictable storyline gains several layers and depth, and earlier scenes begin to make sense.

This twist becomes the film's biggest strength and drives the emotional core of the second half. The film goes from foolish love to 'Munna's' self-improvement journey. Closely following his struggles to secure a government job, his growing understanding of his father's hardships, and the sacrifices his friends make, adds emotional weight. However, the film is not without flaws: some chapters feel stretched, but the climax regains momentum and delivers a satisfying ending.
Despite several issues and an overdose of sentimentality, Deewana succeeds by presenting a familiar love story through a more responsible, emotionally mature lens. The film is a beautiful blend of romance, friendship, and family values, effectively, while the heroine-related twist offers something rarely explored in Telugu cinema.
