Ciara revealed why it was difficult for her to choose abstinence before marriage to Russell Wilson
Before Russell and Ciara got married in 2016, the couple abstained from having sex until their wedding vows. A few months before they tied the knot, Ciara, in an interview with Cosmopolitan, spoke about choosing celibacy before marriage. Revealing why it was not easy for her, Ciara said:
“We're hanging in there. I'm not gonna lie. I'm human, so it is not easy, especially when I look at him, and I think he is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen – that I've ever laid my eyes on, to be honest. I'm like, Look the other way! Look the other way! It's until the deal is sealed. It was an organic thing for him [Russell], and I think he was just being honest about where we are."
Ciara and Russell Wilson’s love story and blended family
It was in 2015 when Ciara met Russell Wilson at a basketball game. But when they appeared together at the White House State Dinner, rumor mills had it that the two were dating each other. They were often spotted spending time together. They never hid their relationship from their fans and were quite open about its course from the beginning.
In 2016, Russell proposed to Ciara, and the two married that same year in the presence of their family and close friends. In 2017, the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Sienna. In 2020, they welcomed their son, Win, and in 2023, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Amora.
Before marrying Russell, Ciara was in a relationship with Nayvadius Wilburn (stage name Future). In 2013, they got engaged and later welcomed their son, Future Zahir Wilburn. However, soon after the birth of her baby boy, Ciara called off the wedding and ended her relationship with Future when their son was just three months old. According to US Weekly, a source close to the portal revealed that the rapper was cheating on Ciara with his stylist.
After Ciara’s wedding to Russell, her son, Future Zahir, became a part of the couple’s life, and Russell treated Zahir as his own son. In 2025, reports surfaced that Ciara's son with her ex-fiancé, Future, had legally taken Russell Wilson's surname and removed his biological father's surname. In an Instagram post, Russell shared photos from their U.S. Open visit and, in the caption, referred to his stepson as 'Future Zahir Wilson' instead of using 'Wilburn'.
Ciara and Russell have been living a happy life with their four children, and her footballer husband has often teased her in public about being ready to have a fifth child. Some time back, Ciara attended the Tobago and Trinidad Festival and posted stunning pictures from the event. In the post, Russell joked about having a fifth child and wrote:
“This my mating call I see… keep sippin’ on that @tentoonerum. Cinco goin’ to be on di way!”
