Christa Pike Feels A 'Kinship' With Lindsay Clancy Over 'Uniquely Female Issues' Ahead Of Execution
Christa Pike, Tennessee's only woman scheduled to be executed on Wednesday, said she can relate to Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy, who allegedly killed her three kids and faced a mistrial.

Days before her execution, Pike spoke up about Clancy's closely watched murder trial in Massachusetts, one that ended in a mistrial earlier this month. The former nurse is being tried over the January 2023 deaths of her three children in their family home. Pike says she feels a "kinship" with Lindsay Clancy over women's mental health issues that are now being more openly addressed.

Days before her scheduled execution, on September 24, 2026, Christa Pike spoke about Lindsay Clancy's case in an interview with The Times of London. The 50-year-old death row inmate said that she could relate to the Massachusetts mom, who blames postpartum psychosis for the murder of her kids.
Pike survived severe sexual abuse and violence throughout her childhood, and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Speaking about Lindsay's case, she shared:
"I feel a kinship with Lindsay. We are both females who got into trouble because of uniquely female issues. One thing is different, however, is that times have changed a lot in terms of awareness of women’s issues since I was put on trial."
Pike said she was pleased that Clancy’s case resulted in a mistrial and that she has been receiving psychiatric care. She also connected the case to her own claims that mental health problems were not adequately addressed when she was prosecuted more than three decades ago. Christa said:
"I am pleased she received a mistrial and is getting the help she needs. There are so many women who don’t get the help they need: me and others."
Clancy was charged in connection with the January 2023 deaths of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan, at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Her defense argued that she was experiencing postpartum psychosis and other serious mental health problems at the time.
The trial ended in a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. At a September 29, 2026 status hearing, Lindsay's attorney argued for a finding of not guilty, saying the prosecutors could not prove that she was actually behind the murders. Clancy survived a suicide attempt following the deaths and has been receiving treatment at a psychiatric facility.
The 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer that put Christa Pike on death row at 18
Pike was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy in connection with one of the most horrendous murder cases in the history of America. She and her accomplices killed 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer near the University of Tennessee campus in January 1995.
Slemmer had over 300 lacerations on her body, strange (reportedly Satanic) symbols carved deep into her chest, and a crushed skull with a piece taken away by Pike as a souvenir. When she was convicted, she defended her accomplices, admitting she was the actual killer.
Pike allegedly felt no remorse at the time, and it took her years to finally understand the gravity of what she had done. Her attorneys later cited her severe mental illness at the time of the murder and her young age amid circumstances surrounding her original trial. She said in her (now-rejected) clemency petition:
"I was a mentally ill 18-year-old kid. It took me numerous years to even realize the gravity of what I'd done. Even more to accept how many lives I affected. I took the life of someone's child, sister, friend. It sickens me now to think I had the ability to commit such a crime."
Pike’s comments about Clancy came as her own case entered its final stages. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee denied Pike's clemency request on September 28, 2026, saying he had reviewed the case and would uphold the state’s sentence.
Tennessee’s Department of Correction has confirmed that Christa Pike’s execution is scheduled for 10 a.m. CDT on September 30, 2026, at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.
