Actress and model, Poonam Pandey shocked everyone as she declared herself alive after a day of faking her death. For the unversed, on February 2, 2024, news about Poonam’s death garnered all the headlines. Hours later, her manager, Parul Chawla confirmed that the 32-year-old actress had passed away due to cervical cancer. As soon as the news of Poonam’s death went viral, her colleagues and fans poured condolence messages for her.
However, on February 3, 2023, Poonam Pandey dropped a video of herself claiming that she was alive. In the video, Poonam claimed that she had hoaxed her death in order to raise awareness about cervical cancer. She also penned her reasons for faking her death and claimed how women never pay attention to the deadly cervical cancer. The actress also urged women to get themselves checked.

Poonam’s stunt didn’t go well with netizens as well as her colleagues. As soon as the actress declared that she was alive, many celebs took to their social media handles and hurled abuses at Poonam for pulling such a cheap stunt. Television actor, Aly Goni expressed his outrage at her and stated that her act was a cheap publicity stunt.
Not just Aly, but singer, Rahul Vaidya also reacted to Poonam’s fake death news and wrote, “And I was right! Now that Poonam is alive I can surely say RIP PR/marketing. New low of creating a sensational/viral campaign…welcome to Kalyug.” Kashmir Files director, Vivek Agnihotri also reacted to the sensationalism created by Poonam and tweeted:
“With the emerging challenges of SM, I think there should be some regulations, specially, for the newsmakers and those who call themselves influencers. Normalising sensationalism and gimmicks is dangerous. Fake death news is just the beginning. Aage aage dekho hota hai kya.”

Actress, Sonal Chauhan also reacted to Poonam’s act and called it shameful. Actor Shardul Pandit took to his IG handle, and posted a video and expressed his anger towards Poonam and her act. Revealing how hurt he was with her act as he lost his mother to cancer, Shardul wrote:
“Not cool @poonampandeyreal not cool whoever came up with the idea, whoever convinced you , not cool whoever thought this is a good awareness. At the cost of sounding like a joke I was affected, hurt , disoriented , lost and deeply saddened. As much as I thankgod that you are alive I hate the fact that I along with many had to go through the deep emotions ,grief and sadness. Why am I calling this out on social media coz this was done. Someday I will forgive you as I love you but this needs to be called out. This needs to be stopped . This is not the awareness we need this is not the pain we need. I have lost my mother to cancer I speak for depression. Now I speak out publically to stop STUNTS like this. Soemone could have lost their life to a news like this ,how would that be as awareness.”

Many Reddit users, too, reacted to Poonam’s fake death news and called out the actress for the worst publicity stunt. One of the users penned, “She has gone too far with this, heights!!!!!” Another one commented, “Do you really believe she did it for the awareness? Naah, this was just a publicity stunt to gather more followers/likes and that’s just sad.”
