Poonam Pandey's sudden demise left the entire nation in shock. However, more than her demise, it is the reason behind it that made many wonder if it is really true. On February 2, 2024, Poonam Pandey's team posted a picture note and revealed that the actress passed away after a tough battle with cervical cancer. The note further stated that she was diagnosed with the disease sometime back and it was in the last stage. However, netizens, including many celebrities, are not able to believe that Poonam was attending events till January 31, 2024.
For the unversed, Poonam's manager revealed that it was the actress' sister who called her in the morning and informed her about the former's untimely demise. According to a report by India Today, a source close to the actress revealed that after the post about Poonam's death was published on her IG handle, her sister's phone was unreachable.

The source further stated that Poonam's sister's phone has been switched off since morning and her other family members are also not reachable. They even tried to get in touch with 2-3 members of Poonam's team, but everyone's phone is either switched off or unreachable. A screenshot of the news was shared on Reddit, and the netizens think it is an honour killing.
As soon as the post was shared, one user wrote, "I think cancer can impact even a healthy person but ain't no way she would have been able to make a public appearance on Monday, post on Instagram on Tuesday and die on Friday. Something is definitely fishy." Another one commented, "I read it was informed to her team by Poonam Pandey's sister.. So family definately is in role but mow people speculate it wasn't because of cancer.. They say it was because of a drug overdose.. Which?? Perhaps that's the more important question."
In an interview with Times Now, Poonam Pandey's bodyguard mentioned that the actress never talked about her illness. He further confirmed that she did a shoot on January 31, 2024, with Rohit Verma. The bodyguard further revealed that Poonam's UP house has a locked door and none of her family members are answering their call.
