The auction is being hosted on a handscraft product website, Parisera, and to give you all a live update, the bidding amount began from Rs 40,000 and has already touched Rs 1,30,000. Sharing a memoir of Sridevi and some details about the bid, the statement at the Parisera website could be read as, “While the entire industry was awestruck by the unstoppable phenomenon called Sridevi, the audience was falling in love with a woman who was a firecracker in disguise. Only a few actors can be remembered for their screen names, Sridevi was definitely one of them.”
It concluded with, “She started her career as a child artist and quickly catapulted the hierarchy to become one of India’s first female superstars. This iconic actress was also revered for her fashion choices. She dazzled in Kanjivarams and looked like a mini-constellation. For the auction, the family has chosen a Kota sari. It is light, bright and emanates the perfect essence of Sridevi. Its versatility is widely known, this stylish weave can be worn to a reception, soirée or to a simple party. Handmade silver trinkets or a string of pearls will enhance the beauty of this luxurious weave.”
Sridevi was one of the reigning ladies of Bollywood for almost her entire filmy career. Speaking about her stardom in a throwback 1987 interview with India Today, the Hawa Hawai actress had shared, “It doesn't give me a chance to get to know life. Whenever I want a saree or anything, it comes to me. I have never been shopping. But I've got so used to it that even if I get a chance to experience things, I withdraw. I feel very uneasy with anything new. I feel comfortable only with my lifestyle.”
Speaking about her love for sarees in an interview with Verve, Sridevi had shared, “I am very comfortable in saris. South Indians wear them a lot. For us, it is very easy to wear the sari — whether it is a heavy silk or a light chiffon one.” Do you know, who her fashion icon was? The actress had shared, “Maharani Gayatri Devi, for she was very elegant. The way she carried her chiffon saris and pearls was extremely graceful. I remember thinking that I would dress up in the same way, some time in the future. And, if we speak of Western icons, I would name Princess Diana. She was dignified.”
To remind you of another update, Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor had held a puja in Chennai (Sridevi’s maternal home), in memory of Sridevi’s mrityu tithi, which fell on February 14, 2019, though the date of her passing away being on February 24.
