Bobby Deol Waited For 4 Years Until His Debut Film's Release, Was Frustrated Training For All Skills

Throwback to the time when Bobby Deol's debut film, 'Barsaat' got shelved for four years and it led the actor getting frustrated.

Bobby Deol is one of the finest actors in Tinseltown. Carrying forth the illustrious legacy of his father, Dharmendra and his elder brother, Sunny Deol, Bobby has carved an unparalleled place in Indian cinema. The young lad, who made his silver screen debut back in 1995 has been treating audiences with massive blockbuster films at the box-office. Of recently, Bobby enthralled everyone with his power-packed performance in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer film, Animal. Moreover, he also has an interesting line-up of impressive films, that are set to release within a short while.

Bobby Deol recalled last-minute change of directors for his debut film

Previously, while speaking at the Jagran Film Festival, Bobby Deol opened up about the long delay it took for his debut film, Barsaat to get released on celluloid. Citing the main reason behind it, the actor mentioned that it was primarily meant to be directed by Shekhar Kapur, who left it just after 27 days of shooting, since he got an offer from Hollywood to shoot another film, Bandit Queen. Sharing how his father, Dharmendra had to step in and find another director for the film, Bobby said:

“I started shooting for the film very early and Shekhar Kapur was the director. We shot for the film for 27 days. He then got an offer from Hollywood to make Bandit Queen. Shekhar said, ‘I will do Bandit Queen and come back to do Barsaat,’ But my father told him that he didn’t want to delay it. He told Shekhar, ‘You go do your film, I will find somebody else.’ And I think Rajkumar Santoshi was waiting to direct my film. I got lucky with him.”

Bobby talked about the long wait of four years before his debut film was released

Further in the revelation, Bobby Deol remarked how this change of filmmakers from Shekhar Kapur to Rajkumar Santoshi pulled in a lot of changes into the script of the film, which escalated the delay of the release of the film for four years. As a result, the actor revealed getting frustrated over the slow turn of events, during which he was made to get trained in all kinds of skills, from playing drums, bike riding and running. In his words:

“I was 26 when my film was released, I was 22 when I started shooting for it. After Shekhar left I had to wait for a year or so for the shooting to start again. Even then it took two years to make. The script kept changing. I took up running, playing drums, bike riding and other things to fit into different character requirements according to the changes in the script. It was frustrating.”

Bobby Deol recalled shooting with a real tiger for one of the sequences of his debut film

In yet one of his older interviews with Mashable India, Bobby Deol revealed an interesting anecdote about shooting his debut film, Barsaat. The actor shared how he had to shoot with a real Siberian tiger for a fight sequence in the film, and remarked how much it was difficult and tiring it was to perform that way. He mentioned:

“We shot it in Italy. We learnt there was someone who had trained Siberian tigers. He had a small zoo of his own. I did the fight with the tiger there. They had just trimmed his nails. They would have a piece of meat close to my neck so the tiger jumps on you and goes for the meat. I had to stop him with my hand. His paws were so heavy that when he would get tired, he would place his paws on me and I would get pushed down.”

Bobby Deol expressed gratitude on the kind of appreciation he received for Animal

The year 2023 has been exceptionally rewarding for Bobby Deol, as he left everyone’s jaws dropped with his villainous role in the film, Animal. While the choice for such a film was unprecedented by an actor like him, who was previously known for his chocolate boy avatar, Bobby, on the other hand, received a lot of love and appreciation for the same. In an earlier interaction with Siddharth Kannan, Bobby talked along the same lines and revealed:

“I still remember that day I was doing a shot, it was an important moment in the film and Sandeep and all the people who were shooting started clapping. I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ Then Sandeep came to me and said, ‘What an award-winning shot!’ I was like, ‘Am I really hearing this?’ It meant a lot to me.”
