Bobby Deol has been one of the most sought-after actors in the 90s, who made countless women go weak in their knees over his handsome looks. From essaying roles of a lover-boy to the knight in shining armour, Bobby’s versatility has made his films iconic to date. Movies like Gupt, Soldier, Humraaz, Naqaab have been some of his career’s best performances. Fast forward to now, the actor recently made a blockbuster comeback with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film, Animal, released in 2023.
Bobby Deol, Manisha Koirala and Kajol’s breathtaking stint in the crime thriller, Gupt was one of the most stellar performances back in 1997. The film had launched the actors to never-seen-before heights in their respective careers. Back during an interview with Filmfare, Bobby Deol had recalled getting irked with his co-star, Manisha Koirala, while shooting a song for the film, due to her bad breath. Elaborating how it made him extremely uncomfortable to shoot the song in a romantic way, Bobby said:
“I got along fine with her, though we didn’t become friends. While shooting for the song ‘Bechaniyaan’ in Gupt, she had to bring her face close to mine and then bite my chin for the shot. As she brought her face close to mine, I got a blast of had breath. She’d eaten chana chaat full of raw onions just before the scene. It’s a wonder how I even managed to do the scene. Because romance was the last thing on my mind then.”

Further in the revelation, Bobby Deol mentioned how this experience irked him so much that he instantly planned to take revenge on Manisha Koirala. The actor revealed how he planned a prank to pull off against the actress by conning a newcomer on the sets of Gupt. Bobby said that he convinced the newcomer to eat lots of onions before doing a shooting with Manisha, so that the diva would also feel the experience of facing bad breath. Concluding how the prank fell flat, Bobby narrated:
“I wanted to get back at her. The fight master and I conned a newcomer, who was playing her brother, to eat onions. We told him that they were good for concentration and that they’d help him to emote better. He had to do a scene with Manisha. So we asked him to breathe heavily when he got close to her. The camera rolled and we waited with bated breath. She never reacted. Our joke fell flat.”
While he has established himself as a top-notch actor over the years, Bobby Deol’s beginnings in the world of cinema hadn’t been a smooth one. Despite being the son of eminent actor, Dharmendra, Bobby had to wait for four years before he could witness his debut film, Barsaat see the light of the day. Talking more about it in one of his previous interactions at the Jagran Film Festival, Bobby narrated:
“I was 26 when my film was released, I was 22 when I started shooting for it. After Shekhar left I had to wait for a year or so for the shooting to start again. Even then it took two years to make. The script kept changing. I took up running, playing drums, bike riding and other things to fit into different character requirements according to the changes in the script. It was frustrating.”

Previously, in an interaction with Mashable India, Bobby Deol revealed that he fought with a real tiger while shooting his debut film, Barsaat. The actor narrated it was a difficult and tiring experience, since he had to bear the weight of the tiger itself. In his words:
“We shot it in Italy. We learnt there was someone who had trained Siberian tigers. He had a small zoo of his own. I did the fight with the tiger there. They had just trimmed his nails. They would have a piece of meat close to my neck so the tiger jumps on you and goes for the meat. I had to stop him with my hand. His paws were so heavy that when he would get tired, he would place his paws on me and I would get pushed down.”
