Outside of work, Barry also drew attention in his personal life when he made his relationship with Sabrina Carpenter official. The couple initially kept their dating buzz quiet, which began in December 2023; however, a few months later, they debuted as a couple.
In December 2024, the pair parted ways, and for the same reason, Barry had to face the wrath of the singer's fans. Not only was he slammed; his personal life, look, family, everything was being targeted. Barry, in several of his interviews, stated that he was abused for his looks, so much so that he had to step back from social media.
The constant chatter surrounding his looks made him so concerned that he didn't even want to go outside. Barry deleted his Instagram following being targeted by social media users who, according to his old statement, 'crossed a line ' by not only making comments about his appearance, but also dragging his family and his baby boy.
Barry released a statement asking people to be mindful of what they say and to be respectful toward his son, whom he shares with his ex, Alyson Sandro. In the statement, he talked about being abused for his appearance and people commenting on his character, while admitting the hurt that was caused by the same.
A few months back, Barry appeared on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash, wherein he shared how deeply the intensity of the criticism had affected him. While receiving criticism is a part and parcel of an actor/actress's life, it was too much for Barry, so intense that he automatically limited himself. Speaking of the same, the actor said that all of these things kind of locked him within himself, and he just shied away. He admitted not wanting to go outside. Barry said:
"It's made me shy away. It's made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside. And I say this being absolute pure and honest to you. It's becoming a problem. So yeah, I don't have to hide away because I am hiding away. I don't have to go to places because I actually don't go to places because of these things. But when that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don't even want to be on screen anymore."
Barry Keoghan reportedly spent USD 6,000 to 'look better'
Unlike other plastic surgeries, Barry Keoghan decided to opt for a non-invasive skin-tightening procedure called XERF. According to the reports, it's a non-surgical facial treatment that first originated in South Korea. Celebrity skin specialist Nilam Holmes helped Barry with the treatment.
The treatment helps boost collagen production, smooth the skin, add firmness, and sharpen facial features, including the jawline and nose. According to Barry, it has been an amazing experience, and he feels better about himself and looks better. Reportedly, the surgery costs up to 4,500 pounds, or around USD 6,003.61.
