Babil Khan Remembers Dad, Irrfan Khan Ahead Of His Debut, Talks About Being Compared To Him

A father holds the most special place in the hearts of the children, as they are not just an inspiration for them, but also their protector and guide. And for Babil Khan, it is his father’s memories that have been helping him steer forward in the most beautiful way.

For the unversed, Babil Khan is the eldest son of the late actor, Irrfan Khan and film producer, Sutapa Sikdar. On April 29, 2020, the world came crashing down for Babil, his mother, Sutapa and his younger brother, Ayaan, with the unfortunate death of Irrfan Khan. While time has passed ever since, the family has emerged strong enough with the powerful memories of Irrfan guiding their way forward.

Fast forward to today, Babil is all set to follow his father’s footsteps and make his debut with the film, Qala. While prepping up for his intense role in the film was challenging work for Babil, he had the strength of his father passed down to him in the form of guidance. During a media interaction for his film, Babil remembered his daddy, Irrfan and shared what he would have felt, if he was there to see his debut. In his words:

“Baba would have been happy. I can imagine the laughter we would have shared after watching it and, also, being cuddly. We were very huggy-buggy types. Then, he would have said now, let’s get back to work.”

Further in the interview, Babil spoke about the inevitable possibility of being compared with his father. Though, he accepts such a comparison, however, he shared that his perception of being compared to Irrfan’s legacy is different. He mentioned:

“That’s bound to happen. Since Mamma was not in the limelight, people don’t make that comparison. But I am their son and I have inherited their genes. It’s part of my journey to be compared to their legacy.”

While coming from a film legacy, especially since both his parents have been closely associated with the art of films and filmmaking, it was assumed by many that Babil would too follow in his footsteps. However, the budding actor revealed a completely different reason for him to choose this particular field. In his words:

“Letting go of who you are and be totally engrossed where your insecurities have turned into the experiences of another human being… In that surrender to be able to affect someone else’s soul is magical. That happened on stage when I was in Class VIII and acted in a play called The Comedy of Errors. I didn’t know then it’s called acting. I just knew that whatever was that feeling, I wanted to explore that.”
