Aruna Irani claimed that Kuku Kohli had not told her he was a married man during their first meeting
Aruna Irani and the late filmmaker Kuku Kohli chose to keep their relationship hidden from the world, but when the veteran actress started talking about her marriage, it became headlines. However, she didn't speak much about the relationship until Kuku Kohli's first wife was alive.
Earlier, during an interview with The Times of India, Aruna Irani revealed that their relationship blossomed on a film set. They met during one of the film's shoots, and he would make all the actors wait until Dharmendra arrived. However, this left her extremely angry.

Aruna was also working on other films simultaneously, and she would get upset with Kuku, who would try to calm her. While they were having their own love-hate relationship, they fell in love. She was quoted as saying:
"We met each other during one of the films we worked on together. During that film, he used to make all the other actors wait until Dharmendra ji arrived on set to start the shoot. And I used to get very angry at him as I was also working on some other films at that time. So we started with a love-hate relationship. I used to get very upset with him and he used to console me. Uss chakkar mein kaise lafda ho gaya samajh nahi aaya."
Aruna also recalled being surprised to learn that Kuku was already married and had two daughters. He never told her about his marriage, and by the time she found out, she was in love with him. She stated that she started talking about it after his first wife passed away. She said:
"He didn't even tell me that he was married when we met, and that's how I fell in love with him. So it didn't feel right to speak about our relationship as he was already married with a wife and daughters. Now I am talking about it because his first wife passed away a few months back."
For the unversed, at the age of 40, Aruna married Kuku in 1990. The couple doesn't have kids of their own, and the reason was how today's children are. She shared that her doctor friend helped her understand it and told her that the generation gap between her and the child would have been too much. She said:
"A dear friend, Dr Ajay Kothari, helped me see reason and make up my mind. He said, 'It's fine that you got married, you need companionship, but the generation gap between a child and you would be too much to handle.' I believe he was right. My child and I would have suffocated each other."
