Anthony Smith's arrest left everyone shocked. According to reports, he has been arrested after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife, forced her into his car, and later tried to run her over with it. A report by TMZ cited the prosecutors who made the shocking revelation, where it was mentioned that the incident happened after the couple got into a heated argument at a Nebraska bar.
The Sarpy County Attorney's Office detailed the claims hours after the 38-year-old former UFC star went before a judge, and the allegations are explosive. According to reports, it all started when Anthony Smith allegedly got into an altercation at a Gretna, Nebraska bar on July 26, 2026 (ET). The prosecutors revealed that the UFC fighter threatened to kill his wife, Mikhala Renee Newman, if she didn't go home with him and then allegedly grabbed her and pushed her inside the car.
According to the officials, Mikhala Renee Newman was able to temporarily escape her livid husband Anthony Smith during the drive home. However, Smith was adamant about getting her back in the vehicle. Once they arrived at their residence, Mikhala allegedly exited the car again, prompting the former UFC fighter to allegedly attempt to strike her multiple times with the car.
While Anthony Smith's wife Mikhala Renee Newman wasn't physically harmed during the alleged attack, an arrest warrant was issued against him the next day. Smith turned himself in hours later and was presented before the judge on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 (ET), following which he was released on a USD 500K bond (he only had to put up 10 percent).
The former light heavyweight title contender reportedly spent nearly two days in the county jail before he was released Wednesday, July 29, 2026 (ET) afternoon. However, before his release, he was given clear orders to stay away from his wife and not try to contact her.

The ex-UFC fighter is facing three felonies. Smith has not yet addressed the allegations. However, according to TMZ, he was booked into a local county jail on Monday, July 27, 2026 (ET). According to the case filing, Anthony Smith has been charged with terroristic threats, false imprisonment (1st degree), and domestic violence causing serious bodily injury.
The domestic violence charge alone can carry up to 20 years in the slammer, while the other two counts can put him behind bars for up to three years each. Meaning if the charges against Anthony Smith are proven, he could be facing a 26-year prison sentence.

He dropped out of high school to work as a concrete finisher before shifting to MMA.
