Revealing the reason behind her lipstick-applying technique, Alia shared that her then-boyfriend-now-husband, Ranbir Kapoor, used to ask her to remove her lipstick whenever they went on a night out. She added that Ranbir wants her to wipe her lipstick off as he loves the natural colour of her lips.

Alia Bhatt’s statement did not go down well with a section of netizens, and it raised quite a few eyebrows. When the video was shared on Reddit, the netizens bombarded the post's comment section and slammed Ranbir for his misogynist behaviour. While one user penned, "My point exactly. Ranbir Kapoor was on the receiving end of the trolls for some time, courtesy of his controversial remark on Alia Bhatt's lipstick. Once in a live interactive session with his fans, Ranbir addressed the rumours about him being toxic and misogynist and recalled reading some articles about him after Alia revealed he asked her to remove her lipstick. Throwing light on the same, he said:
"Recently, I was reading some article about being toxic and something relating to some statement I made and I understand this. And I am on the side of the people who are fighting for the toxic masculinity, if they use me as the face of it, it’s fine because their fight is bigger than just me feeling bad about them having an opinion about what I said.”
