Akash Ambani, the scion of Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh Ambani, a graduate from Brown University, Ivy League research university and one of the most influential young leaders, married his schoolmate and crush, Shloka Mehta, Director of the Rosy Blue Foundation and co-founder of ConnectFor, which matches volunteers with NGOs that need them. Akash and Shloka had studied at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai and his twin sister, Isha Ambani was her classmate and a very close friend of Shloka's sister, Diya Mehta. In Isha's words, she is like a third sister to Shloka and Diya.
It has been more than two years since the biggest wedding of the decade had taken place in 2019 and we are still not over the #AkuStoleTheShlo union. Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta had become Mr and Mrs Ambani and had embarked their 'happily ever after' journey as soulmates on March 9, 2019. More than one-and-a-half years after their wedding, Akash and Shloka embraced parenthood with the arrival of their son, Prithvi Ambani. A picture of junior Ambani and his proud grandfather, Mukesh Ambani had gone viral back then and the little one looked too adorable for words!
On social media, there are hundreds of fan pages dedicated to the Ambani family and scrolling through one such fan page, we found a throwback picture of Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta. The throwback picture of Akash and Shloka will take you back to their school days, when they were in their tenth grade. Dressed in their school uniforms, Akash and Shloka happily posed with their friend. In 2021, Akash and Shloka look exactly the same as they were in their class tenth.
Being schoolmates, Akash Ambani had proposed his 'crush', Shloka Mehta on the last day of school. Obviously, Shloka had said 'yes' to the proposal and they even told their families about it. But Akash and Shloka were advised to keep their relationship a secret to avoid unwanted media attention. Post getting engaged, Shloka had talked about the bond that she shares with Akash and keeping pace with her relationship despite their hectic schedules. She was quoted as saying by Bombay Times, "Despite years and busy schedules, we have always found ways to stay connected. Akash is incredibly grounded, and we share a bond based on meaning and memories. We don't just get along - we also support each other's hopes and aspirations and are determined to build a sense of purpose into our lives together. We are lucky to have a love that began with being best friends and luckier still to have such supportive families."
The announcement of Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta's wedding was enough to quench our curious souls as we had anxiously waited for the lovebirds to swoon us with their bride and groom looks. And the nail-biting moment came to an end when Akash and Shloka's first pictures as man and wife made it to our social media feeds. Shloka had looked the prettiest traditional bride ever in a regal golden and red Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga featuring zardosi and jadau embroidery and proved that red will always be the colour of the bride. We were in sheer awe as she completed her bridal look, Shloka had worn layered raani haar, choker, an elaborate mathapatti, a nath and traditional earrings. Akash, on the other hand, had oozed royalty in a golden and beige-hued sherwani.
In an interaction with the Vogue, Isha Ambani Piramal had spoken about her twin brother, Akash Ambani and her friend-turned-sister-in-law, Shloka Mehta. Isha had said, "Akash has the largest heart ever. He's like one of the most—I don't think there's a word for it in English—"dayalu" humans in this world. He's empathetic, gracious and gentle, just like Shloka." Revealing how Shloka has always been a part of their family, Isha had continued, "In fact, Shloka's sister, Diya [Mehta Jatia] and I were in the same class in Sunflower and then in JB [Petit]. We have been best friends for over 25 years. Then when I moved to Ambani, I skipped a grade and went to Shloka's class. So, I've been like a third sister to them. I was thrilled with the engagement news. Shloka's always been part of the family for us."
Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta in one frame, are always a sight to behold!
