Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre’s launch event on March 31, 2023, saw many A-listers of Bollywood come under the same roof. It was a meet-greet moment for some Bollywood celebs, while an awkward encounter for a few others. We also saw some controversial names not just breathing the same air but also royally ignoring their foes, who were once their friends.
And one such celeb encounter happened with Aishwarya Rai and Karisma Kapoor. For the unversed, before getting married to Abhishek, Aishwarya shared a great bond with Karisma. As everyone is aware that Karisma was supposed to get married to Abhishek Bachchan, but their engagement was abruptly called off. Abhishek then got married to the former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai. However, when Aishwarya had an encounter with Karisma Kapoor at the NMACC, it was surely an awkward moment for the two.

In a viral video doing rounds on social media, Aishwarya was seen walking with Aaradhya when she suddenly saw Karisma standing on their opposite side. The Guru actress turned and walked towards the other side. The awkward moment was caught on camera and once again brought Karisma and Abhishek’s affair and broken engagement into the limelight.

Talking about Abhishek and Karisma’s affair, the duo met each other at the former's sister, Shweta Bachchan's wedding in 1997 and they soon started dating. Although they had managed to keep their relationship under wraps for five years, in October 2002, on Amitabh Bachchan's 60th birthday celebrations, the announcement of Abhishek and Karisma’s engagement pleasantly surprised everyone. Karisma had then stated:
“It feels wonderful to be a part of this family.”

However, when their wedding was called off abruptly, many speculations cited the reasons behind the split. It was also rumoured that the real reason behind their sudden called-off wedding was Karisma's mother, Babita. It was reported that she wanted a stable and secure life for her daughters. Having undergone a tough phase after separation from Randhir Kapoor, Babita single-handedly raised her daughters, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor. It was also said that Babita asked for a prenup in which Amitabh would transfer some of his wealth into Abhishek’s name, to secure her daughter’s future.
Post their breakup, Karisma Kapoor went on to marry Sanjay Kapur, a rich Delhi-based businessman on September 29, 2003. But they too had parted ways and were granted the divorce in 2016. Karisma is now a single mother to her two kids, Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Raj Kapoor. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan is happily married to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and they have a lovely daughter, whom they have named Aaradhya Bachchan.
