Where Is Tyria Moore Now? All About Aileen Wuornos's GF, She Confessed To 7 Murders To Protect Her

Aileen Wuornos confessed to killing seven men. However, one person played a major role in getting her statement on record. Yes, we are talking about Tyria Moore. While Wuornos was sentenced to death by lethal injection and executed after being on death row for a decade, she is once again in the headlines. 

Aileen Wuornos' name resurfaced with the release of Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. Many compared the two killers, alleging Wuornos took inspiration from Borden, who, unlike Wuornos, was never found guilty. Amid the buzz around Wuornos, netizens have grown interested in how Tyria Moore got involved with her and how she got the criminal to confess.

Who is Tyria Moore? All about their relationship and how she got Aileen Wuornos to confess

Tyria Moore was in her mid-20s when she first met Aileen Wuornos. She was working as a motel maid in Florida, and the killer was 30 years old at the time, according to Joseph Reynolds' book Dead Ends. Moore grew up in Cadiz with a middle-class family and lived with friends before meeting Wuornos at a gay bar called Zodiac. According to the Los Angeles Times, Wuornos, who had allegedly been abused as a child, had moved from Michigan to Florida for a marriage with a man who was 50 years older than her. 

However, by the time Wuornos met Moore, the marriage had been annulled, and the former was working as a sex worker. They quickly hit it off and moved in together. While Wuornos described Moore as the "love of her life," the latter told the police, "We became lovers, and it later turned into a sister-like relationship." Although they fell in love, the couple faced some financial issues.

Moore had quit her job, and while Wuornos tried to support them, they had to move from town to town, which made it difficult for her earnings to keep them afloat. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Wuornos told the police:

"I did what I had to do to pay the bills, because I didn't have another choice: I'd got warrants out for my arrest. The problem was I wasn't supporting her as richly as she wanted. She always wanted a brand-new car or a rented one. She wanted clothes, she wanted an apartment with plush furniture. 'I've got to have my things,' she would say. I brought home about USD 300 every two weeks, but it wears you out, constantly talking to all those men, staying up."

According to Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Wuornos committed her first murder while she was in a relationship with Moore, and even confided in her about killing her first victim, Richard Mallory. However, Moore refused to listen, and Wuornos went on to kill six more of her clients. Moore eventually got suspicious and ended her relationship with the killer. By the late 1990s, when police suspected that Wuornos was behind the murders, they tracked down Moore to help convince Wuornos to confess.

Moore has since denied any involvement in the crimes and was never charged in relation to Wuornos' murders. In January 1991, Wuornos was arrested in Harbor Oaks on an outstanding warrant while police worked to persuade Moore to have her girlfriend confess in exchange for immunity. Shortly after Wuornos was put behind bars, she called Moore from the prison, who told her the police were coming after her. Wuornos confessed to the crimes in order to protect her ex and said:

"I'm not gonna let you go to jail. Ty, I love you. If I have to confess everything just to keep you from getting in trouble, I will."

Moore ultimately became the key witness in Wuornos' 1992 trial for the murder of Mallory. During her testimony, she recounted the night that Wuornos came home from her first murder and confessed to the crime. However, Wuornos alleged that she killed Mallory after he raped her, but Moore shared that her then-girlfriend never mentioned any such incident. Moore further said that she was "scared" of Wuornos after she saw a wanted poster of her girlfriend and moved back to Ohio.

Moore explained that she betrayed Wuornos' trust by getting a confession out of her. However, she wanted people to know she had "nothing to do" with the murders. The Netflix docuseries has once again brought Moore into the limelight, with many questioning where she is now. For those who don't know, Moore has largely stayed out of the public eye since she testified against Wuornos in 1992. She appeared in an interview that year, but has refused to participate in any projects related to Wuornos ever since.
