Ahaan Panday Shares Reason Behind Avoiding Mom, Deanne, After She Watched 'Saiyaara', '..Her Fault'

Ahaan Panday became a well-known face among cinephiles since he appeared in the movie, Saiyaara. Directed by Mohit Suri, Ahaan starred in the film opposite Aneet Padda in her first lead role. When Saiyaara was released last year, in July 2025, no one had any idea how much of a hit it would become, especially among those who are big fans of romantic movies. Now, with Ahaan currently shooting for his second film, he opened up about his mom's emotional reaction to Saiyaara.

Recently, Ahaan Panday sat down for an interview with Filmfare. Among the things he shared, what caught our attention was his revealing his mother, Deanne Panday's, emotional reaction to his film, Saiyaara. For those unaware, Saiyaara was Ahaan's debut movie, which earned him a huge fan following since its release. The actor confessed that his mom's reaction made him so overwhelmed that he began avoiding her at home for some time. He said:

"My mom couldn’t stop crying. Every time she looked at me, she’d just tear up. I actually started avoiding her at home because of it. She kept saying, 'I can’t believe that’s the same boy I saw on screen,' and wondered how she didn’t know I could do this. I had to tell her not to feel guilty; it’s not her fault. She’s deeply emotional and sensitive. And I think the parts of me that come alive when I perform, I get that from her."

In the same interview with Filmfare, Ahaan Panday went on to express his gratitude for his mom, Deanne Panday. He said that if there is a person in his family whom he could learn from, it would be none other than his mother, Deanne. He noted how resilient she was. He believes that Deanne has done the most thankless job in the world, which is that of being a mother. According to the actor, it is a job that is harder than any profession. Ahaan also described Deanne as his backbone, who has been there for him every step of the way. 

Ahaan Panday admitted that while people mostly see him talking about his grandmother, the person who is actually at the core of everything is none other than his mother. He claimed that he is who he is today because of his mother and even called her “a beautiful person.” For the uninitiated, Ahaan was only 17 years old when casting director, Shanoo Sharma called him. He was officially signed after becoming an adult, at the age of 21 and began shooting for his hit film, Saiyaara, when he was 26 years old.

Mohit Suri's directorial, Saiyaara, was released back in 2025 and became an instant sensation among critics and audiences alike. Despite being made on a modest budget, the success it saw at the box office wasn’t like any other. According to reports, it collected a staggering Rs. 338 crore in India. That is not all, coming to Saiyaara's worldwide income, it reportedly grossed an estimated Rs. 580 crore. 

Owing to Saiyaara, Ahaan Panday, as well as his co-star, Aneet Padda, became one of the favourite on-screen couples of Gen Z. Fans of the pair lovingly dubbed them ‘Ahneet.’ It is worth noting that Saiyaara had set new records for an Indian romantic film. In addition to the acting of Ahaan and Aneet, the movie's soundtrack also got a lot of love from fans. This was evidenced by its maintaining its spot on streaming charts for months after its release.
