Dispatch audio reveals that the officials were looking for a sign language interpreter
Newly released dispatch recordings have revealed heartbreaking details about the fatal car accident involving Kaylee Hottle in Maryland. Audio from Frederick County Sheriff, Fire and EMS, obtained by Page Six, captured first responders arriving in the early hours of July 21.
At the scene, crews asked for help finding anyone who could communicate in sign language or use an interpreter app to speak with the deaf actress. In the recording, responders also stated that Hottle was unconscious when they arrived as they checked on everyone involved.
One dispatcher mentioned she was in town visiting, and that the person with her didn’t have a way to reach her family. Later in the audio, an official can be heard requesting help from someone who has an interpreter app on their phone since they needed a sign language interpreter. The recordings also detailed how severe the crash was.
Crews described major damage to the front of the car, which had gone about 10 feet off the road and into a drainage ditch. Medics were also asked to come back to check a second person at the scene who reported rib pain. Dispatchers later confirmed they were able to get in touch with Kaylee’s father, Joshua Hottle, by phone.

Emergency crews responded to a deadly single-car accident on Windsor Road in Ijamsville, Maryland, on July 21, 2026. According to an initial report from authorities, a 1995 Honda Accord driven by a 19-year-old from Frederick left the right side of the two-lane road and hit a drainage culvert.
Investigators believe speed may have played a role in the crash. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. A second passenger at the scene refused treatment. Although Kaylee Hottle was immediately transported to a trauma center, she succumbed to her injuries. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is still investigating the incident.
Kaylee Hottle started her journey by appearing in multiple commercials before she entered the film industry. Kaylee was born to a family of deaf people and started her journey by appearing in commercials. Notably, she became a popular face after portraying 'Jia' in Godzilla vs. Kong, directed by Adam Wingard and released in 2021. She reprised her role in the 2024 sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Apart from these, she was featured in an episode of the popular action series Magnum P.I. Furthermore, Kaylee recalled during a conversation with Chron magazine in 2024 that she was discovered by casting director Sarah Halley Finn for Godzilla vs. Kong after she appeared in a commercial for Convo. She also addressed the increase in opportunities for deaf actors in the film industry and said:
“I see a lot of positive things. There’s not a lot of deaf roles or opportunities out there. And so now we’re able, and I’m able to get them, and I think I’ve seen more and more growth and positivity.”
