Accept It Is Over And Move On!

Irrespective of who called it off, a broken engagement can affect both involved. Most experience grief when the relationship falls apart in front of their eyes and all the dreams of sharing a happy life together are shattered. However hard it might be, it’s also time to collect those broken pieces and move on.

Moving On
We only move ahead in life, so even you have to move forward leaving the past behind. Although breakups, especially broken engagements are highly emotional times, it depends on you how you react to this disappointment. While some begin to experience denial (the ones who are hopelessly in love with the other who chose to broke up), others might feel angry or even guilty of their own actions, which led to the relationship being called off. However, it only helps to sort the practical issues including returning the engagement ring and letting your family know, to help you gain some closure.

Friends and relatives may support you and sometimes you might want to be left alone but remember that the biggest decision has already been taken and it only helps to move on.  The reasons for a “broken engagement” could be many and once broken it hardly matters who was at fault, but what matters is how to deal with it and then how to move on in life. Here are some things, which you can do to move on and look forward to a brighter future.

Return The Engagement Ring
If it was a formal engagement then the first and foremost important thing to do is to return that symbolic gesture, the ring. It’s better to do it between the two of you mutually rather than involving family members or friends. If you are finding it tough to do this alone then take the help of a common or a close friend.

Feel Bad, Grieve and Get It Over With
At times, it is okay to feel bad as you really feel, and cry your heart out. Your reactions are only a measure of how human you are and crying over a broken relationship is only natural. However, you should try to pour your energy into newer activities so you do not stay in the same phase for a long time. There are a number of activities such as yoga or adventure activities which will help you relieve and eliminate loss of your love.

Call It Off And Announce
If it was a “roka” or a small ceremony among close relatives then don’t bother about making a formal announcement. If the wedding was just around the corner then take help of your parents or friends to cancel the wedding arrangements.

Talk, Don’t Sulk
Talking can help you a great deal. Talk to your close friends and don’t sulk. Get involved in some hobbies and push yourself to newer activities, a new job or even consider moving to a new city. Remember this is not an end of the road, but just another turn and who knows this may be the right turn!
