Aamir Khan is infamously known as Mr Perfectionist of Bollywood. The 58-year-old actor knows the best way to reach the hearts of his audience, courtesy of his unparalleled acting chops and on-point performance. However, as compared to his smooth-sailing professional life, Aamir’s personal life, on the contrary has been totally topsy-turvey. For the unversed, Aamir got married to his first wife, Reena Dutta in 1986, and they were blessed with two children, Ira and Junaid.
However, due to irreconcilable issues, the duo parted ways in 2000. Five years later, Aamir got married for a second time to Kiran Rao. The duo welcomed their son, Azaad in 2011, through surrogacy. Unfortunately, Aamir’s second marriage also met an unfortunate end, as he and Kiran parted ways in 2021. Fast forward to now, Aamir has been maintaining a cordial relationship with both his ex-wives.
In one of his earlier interviews with Rediff, Aamir Khan spoke about his hush-hush court marriage with his ex-wife, Reena Dutta. The duo, who dated one another in the 80s, tied the knot in 1986. Recalling the same, Aamir mentioned how he had the most economical wedding ever, and spent as little as Rs. 10 for the same. Elaborating more about it, Aamir had said:
“I got married to Reena secretly through court marriage, with three witnesses. My wedding with Reena was most economical. I took Bus 211 and bought a ticket of 50 paise. I got down at Bandra station West, crossed the bridge, landed in the east and walked towards the highway. I crossed that highway and entered Griha Nirman Bhavan, where there is a marriage registrar office. So my wedding cost me less than Rs 10.”

During his appearance on the controversial chat show, Koffee With Karan, Aamir Khan spoke about his retrospection on his personal life in the past. He revealed how deeply he regretted not being able to spend much time as a family man, especially towards both his ex-wives, Reena and Kiran, as well as his children. He had mentioned:
“Junaid is 27 and Ira is 23 and I've not spent so much time with them when they were small children. Actually, since the last many months, I think I am quite a changed person.”
In one of his earlier interviews, Aamir had spoken about his first marriage, and revealed it was heartbreaking for him to end it after 16 years. He expressed that the period of time was traumatic for both him and Reena, along with their respective families. Moreover, he also added how, as ex-partners, both of them tried their best to handle the situation, and revealed that even after divorce, they had the deepest respect for one another. In his words:
“Reena and I were married for 16 long years. When we split up, it was traumatic for us and our families. We tried to deal with the situation as best as we could. Reena and I did not lose love or respect for each other post our split."

Aamir had once shed sheer modern family goals, when he spoke about the kind of cordial equation, he continues to share with both his ex-wives, Kiran and Reena. He highlighted that despite everything that happened in their past, they continue to remain one big family. Moreover, he emphasised how he tries to meet both of them once a week and arrange for one big get-together.
