A.R. Rahman is one of the brightest stars in the music industry, who needs no introduction. From blessing our ears with his impeccable musical talents to pleasing our hearts with his down-to-earth nature, the music composer reigns in millions of hearts. For the unversed, A.R. Rahman got married to his better half, Saira Banu, in 1995. The duo is blessed with three children, Khatija, Raheema, and AR Ameen. Although a lot of people are familiar with his professional journey, very few people know about his personal life. For the uninformed, the singer got married by his mother's choice. Recently, the singer shared some anecdotes about the same and revealed that he had faced cultural and personal challenges post his marriage.

In a recent interview with O2 India, A.R. Rahman shared details about his marital life. The musician stated that marriage changes people, and knowing that he would spend the rest of his life with someone he didn't know earlier was both exciting and terrifying. Further in the interview, the talented artist stated that getting married was more of a spiritual journey for him. And for which he could hold on to all of the storms and everything that could have happened. Elaborating more on the same, A.R. Rahman revealed:

"Marriage changes you. Yeah, I think it was exciting and terrifying both, to know that you're going to live with another person whom you didn't know before. And I think my marriage, my intention was more spiritual than physical. Because of that, I could cling on to all the storms and everything which could happen when you start a life."

A.R. Rahman on the challenges he had to face in his marital life

In the same interview, A.R. Rahman then talked about the challenges that he had to face. Sharing details about the same, the talented music composer mentioned that after having children the entire allegiance to the family splits in some ways. Stating the same, the legend stated:

"And we did have children, and then your whole loyalty towards family is split in a way because it's you, your wife, and then it's your mother. And then how do you integrate all this stuff and go beyond a level where you see everybody as a family?"

Further in the interview, A.R. Rahman shared that there were certain cultural differences, which he believes to be the biggest challenges of his life. The singer then emphasised the significance of not picking sides and instead working to bring everyone together. He said that although there are problems in families apart from all that, love matters the most. Talking about his marriage, the musician stated that marriage expanded many of his qualities, such as sensibilities of compassion, understanding, and patience, by transforming them into a larger perspective. A.R. Rahman could be quoted as saying:

"Because every house has problems and every house has love. Marriage expanded my whole sensibilities of compassion and understanding, patience, many things which are then transformed into a larger perspective."

When A.R. Rahman asked his mom to find a bride and presented three qualities that he wanted in his life partner

From the very beginning, the music composer was clear about what qualities he wanted in his life partner. And as he didn't have time to find a bride, he asked his mom, Kareena Begum, to find him a bride. He also clearly mentioned what qualities he wanted in his bride, which were, firstly, an educated individual. Secondly, the girl had to be beautiful, and finally, he wanted his lady love to have a lot of humility. However, all three qualities were found in Saira Banu, and courtesy of the singer's mom, who found him the perfect match.
