The late legendary actor, Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu are counted among one of the most evergreen couples in the industry. They were married for more than 55 years and were one another's greatest support system, until the legendary actor passed away on July 7, 2021, leaving a huge void in his beloved wife and millions of fans' hearts. However, it was Saira's love for him which simply gave inspiration to many. For the unversed, Saira had a crush on Dilip when she was just 12 years old, and after a series of co-incidental events, they tied the knot in October 1966.
An old clip from one of the joint interviews of the late legendary actor, Dilip Kumar and his ladylove, Saira Banu, resurfaced on the internet. In the video, Saira was heard explaining why she had no interest in his love for her. However, the reason behind the same melted our hearts. She mentioned that it is because her love is enough for both of them. To this, Dilip was seen looking in absolute awe of her. In Saira's words:
"Mujhe esse koi dilchaspi nahi apko mujhse kitni mohabbat hai, jo meri mohabbat hai, hum dono ke liye kaafi hai."

On one of the auspicious occasions of Krishna Janmashtami, after the demise of Dilip, Saira recalled a beautiful incident related to the love of her life. The veteran actress took to her IG handle and shared a video of herself from the movie Shagird, wherein she was seen performing Janmashtami's rituals. The film featured Nazir Hussain along with her. Coincidentally, Nazir was simultaneously working on another film, Ram Aur Shyam, at a different location, along with Dilip. And Saira was aware that Nazir was working with Dilip simultaneously.
Thus, sharing another glimpse from the film, Ram Aur Shyam, in her same post, Saira recalled an incident of wooing Dilip cheekily. Saira mentioned that during the shooting of the Janmashtami scene, she suddenly turned to her co-actor, Nazir, and asked for a favour. Thus, she asked Nazir to pass an indirect proposal for marriage to Dilip and penned:
“I turned to Nazir sahab and with a mischievous smile on my face asked him for a favour. 'You are working with Dilip Sahab, Oh! you are so lucky enough to be working with Dilip Sahab, please request him that Saira is dying to work with him and if he doesn’t do this then ask him to marry me!'"

Further, in another excerpt from her long note, Saira mentioned that Dilip got embarrassed by her cheeky message. However, Saira also mentioned that Dilip entered her life within a few days, allegedly in response to her message. She revealed that Dilip had then asked for her hand in marriage from her mother. In Saira's words:
“Dilip Sahab, I am told, gracefully smiled and acknowledged my cheeky message, to probably cover his embarrassment — although I think you could have knocked him down with a feather. Wonder of wonders we finished the Janmashtami song and can you believe it within the next few days it so happened that Dilip Sahab walked into my life, gazed into my eyes and asked my grandmother and mother for my hand in marriage. This was nothing short of a miracle.”
