Trisha Krishnan's reason for staying unmarried is in focus amid her alleged affair with Vijay Thalapathy and his divorce.
Tamil star, Trisha Krishnan is currently grabbing the spotlight, but for all the wrong reasons. The buzz is not related to her acting career, instead it centres entirely on her personal life controversy. The internet is abuzz with speculation that she is the reason Vijay Thalapathy (real name Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar) and his wife of 26 years, Sangeetha Sornalingam, are heading towards divorce. While Sangeetha hasn't named anyone, fans claim to have spotted clues suggesting that Vijay cheated on his wife with Trisha. Amid the infidelity buzz, curiosity has been sparked regarding why the actress remained unmarried despite being in her 40s.
Bayilvan Ranganathan, a veteran Tamil actor and controversial media commentator, has frequently discussed Ghilli actress, Trisha Krishnan's personal life on his YouTube channel and in media interactions. His June 2024 comment on her focused on her unmarried status. According to him, the 42-year-old (then 40) Trisha was sceptical regarding getting wed because she feared divorce. As per him, she didn't want to be quickly separated, as many celebrities do, so she was taking her time to choose a worthy partner she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Ranganathan's exact words were quoted by Kamundi Online as:
"Trisha is now 40 years old and still unmarried. Many actors and actresses are happily married. But some divorce very quickly. This is the reason why Trisha is not getting married."
Trisha addressed her unmarried status and the ongoing rumours surrounding her personal life multiple times, emphasising that she is content with her independence and does not view marriage as a social necessity. During a press meet for her film, Thug Life, Trisha stated, "I don't believe in marriage. It's okay if it happens, and it's okay if it doesn't." Trisha has emphasised that finding a genuine life companion she can trust is more important than the legal contract of marriage. She also once echoed sentiments similar to Bayilvan Ranganathan's, saying that one of her primary reasons for not rushing is her strong stance against divorce.
Trisha Krishnan would rather remain single than enter an unhappy marriage that ends in separation. In a 2023 interview, she offered another reason for her decision to remain unmarried in her 40s. The Peddi actress admitted to having what she called "single-child syndrome," explaining that she is very comfortable being alone and values her private space. Notably, Trisha almost treaded the path of marriage once, but somehow it ultimately didn't materialise. She was previously engaged to entrepreneur, Varun Manian in 2015, but the engagement was called off shortly after. Following that, she was linked to a married Vijay Thalapathy.
Vijay Thalapathy's wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has reportedly filed for divorce from the actor at the Chengalpattu Family Court, citing infidelity and mental cruelty as the primary reasons. She claimed she discovered in April 2021 that the Tamil actor and politician was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress. While the petition does not name the actress to protect privacy, social media speculation has frequently linked him to his Leo co-star, Trisha Krishnan, though these claims remain unverified. The plea states that although Vijay initially assured Sangeetha that his extramarital affair would end, he allegedly continued it without remorse.
Sangeetha further alleged that Vijay became emotionally distant, withdrew from conjugal life, and subjected her to constructive desertion and public humiliation. The divorce petition further notes that there were multiple attempts to resolve the issues amicably between 2021 and 2025, but these proved unsuccessful. It led Sangeetha to decide to separate from him after 26 years of marriage. Amid that, their son, Jason Sanjay, unfollowed Vijay, leading to rumours of estrangement. A court notice has been issued for Vijay to appear in person on April 20, 2026. As of now, neither Vijay nor his representatives has issued an official public statement regarding the divorce filing.
