In a recent podcast, top paparazzo, Manav Manglani opened up about Jaya Bachchan's equation with paparazzi. He also shared insights on the veteran actress's behaviour with paps.
Jaya Bachchan needs no introduction. She made her acting debut with the Bengali film, Mahanagar. Coming to her personal life, she has been married to Amitabh Bachchan since 1973. While Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan interact well with the media, Jaya’s seemingly irritated reaction while interacting with paparazzi often made headlines. In a recent interview, famous paparazzo, Manav Manglani opened up about the following and shared his insights on it.
Recently, a top paparazzo, Manav Manglani, appeared in the Meri Saheli podcast. During the podcast, Manav opened up about the Bachchan family’s relationship with paparazzi. He stated that both Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan know them well. Amitabh Bachchan also knows them inside out, but he is less interactive with the paps. Manav highlighted that Jaya Bachchan couldn’t connect with them to date. He added that Jaya is still stuck in the traditional space. He stated that Jaya doesn’t understand the paparazzi medium. Manav was quoted as saying:
"Abhishek knows the kind of medium we come from. Aishwarya is very close, so she knows the paps. Bachchanji also knows us inside out, but he is not that interactive with the paps. He hardly interacts, but Abhishek and Aishwarya do. Jayaji has not been able to gauge this medium to date. She is stuck in the traditional space where there are newspapers, journalists, etc. So she doesn’t understand the paparazzi medium. Sometimes it comes as a shock for her to see so many people shooting with their mobile phones."
During the same conversation, Manav got candid about Jaya Bachchan’s equation with paparazzi. Manav stated that initially, the veteran actress would ask where they came from. He highlighted that she was clueless about them and wondered why they clicked her pictures. Manav shared that now the legendary actress is getting used to it. He added that the veteran actress doesn’t like to get clicked while walking and wants to stand in one place and pose for the camera. Manav revealed that Jaya slammed anyone who clicked her from the wrong angle. He was quoted as saying:
"Initially, she would ask where they came from and, since they were not the media, why they clicked her photos. She is now getting used to it. Her only problem is not to get into her face. She says not to click her while walking. She always says, 'Stand in one place, I will come, pose and leave, don’t come on me.' She also slams anyone who clicks her at the wrong angle. She is slowly getting accustomed to it."
In 2025, Jaya attended the 'We The Women' event hosted by journalist, Barkha Dutt. During the event, Jaya slammed the paparazzi culture. The iconic actress shared that her relationship with the media is fantastic, but with paparazzi, she has zero relationship. She added that her father was a journalist and represented the people of the country. Jaya mentioned that she has tremendous respect for such people. She was quoted as saying:
"You know, it’s very strange. My relationship with the media is fantastic. I am the product of media. But my relationship with paparazzi is zero. Who are these people? Are they trained to represent the people of this country? You call them media? I come from the media. My father was a journalist. I have tremendous respect for such people."
