The actress, who is best known for her role as ‘Rita’ in The Handmaid’s Tale and its sequel The Testaments, recently tied the knot with the love of her life, Aidan Shipley. Notably, the duo’s wedding comes after almost eight years of dating.
According to reports, Amanda Brugel married Aidan Shipley on September 11, 2026, in Elora, Ontario, Canada. The couple exchanged vows in front of 100 guests. The ceremony was held at Potter Foundry, a historic 19th-century site. Amanda and Aidan’s wedding was the first one to be held at the landmark.
While speaking with PEOPLE, Amanda gushed about how meeting Aidan was like a fairy tale. She said, “The moment I met him, I knew I met my best friend and the love of my life at the same time, which is like a fairy tale.”
It is worth noting that this is not The Handmaid's Tale star’s first marriage. She was previously married to Marvel Lewis, with whom she shares sons, Jude, 15, and Phoenix, 12. The boys were in charge of escorting Amanda down the aisle, which was lined with antique Persian rugs. Jude and Phoenix were also seen serving as groomsmen for Aidan Shipley.
After Amanda and Aidan finished exchanging their handwritten vows, the guests were led in a mass procession from the wedding venue toward the town center. The celebration was made more special as they were accompanied by live music from a Juno Award-nominated Celtic band called The Bookends.
For her big day, Amanda Brugel wore an off-white ruffled De La Vali dress, which perfectly matched her Bohemian wedding aesthetic. The actress paired the look with a beautiful flower crown. After the ceremony, Amanda changed into a high-neck gown from Yellow the Label for the reception. According to the actress, the dress was a nod to ‘Carrie Bradshaw’s’ bird of paradise headpiece, which we saw in the first Sex and the City movie.
Aidan, on the other hand, looked dashing in a black double-breasted suit. The suit featured an eye-catching white rose boutonniere.
Amanda and Aidan are all set to celebrate eight years together in November 2026. Amanda confessed that they both “immediately got along like a house on fire” when they met for the first time. The newlyweds reportedly have several mutual friends. Amanda shared:
“[We] just kept seeing each other at the same events over and over and over again, until I think I guess just realized that we were not friends and we were very much in love.”
Amanda and Aidan initially had a casual approach to wedding planning because they felt like they were “basically already married.” Their intention for the ceremony was for it to be a fun party.
Marriage was the final milestone in the couple’s relationship, as they had already built a family together and had their own house. Now that she is married, Amanda believes that it will make her bond with Aidan stronger. She said:
“Knowing that we’ve chosen, legally and then publicly, one another forever. We always say it’s us versus the problem, and we very rarely have problems. I know people probably say that all of the time, but we really have a steady, rock-solid relationship. I think a marriage just gives us an even stronger foundation.”
