Taylor Parker was arrested immediately after the murder of Reagan Simmons-Hancock in 2020. Notably, she received a life sentence after a trial in 2022.
Reagan Simmons-Hancock’s brutal murder in 2020 created a lot of debate. The case has been extensively covered in a new documentary, Maternal Instinct. The documentary was released on June 12, 2026, and its focus is also on Taylor Parker, the main culprit behind the incident, who was sentenced to death in 2022. The documentary features conversations with individuals who seemingly sensed that something was wrong with Taylor before the incident.
While it’s been more than three years since Taylor Parker was punished for her actions, there have been multiple discussions about where she is today and her possible execution date. Keep reading to know more!
As mentioned, Taylor Parker was sentenced to death in 2022. Notably, she has been at the Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit in Texas, a prison for female offenders. Back in November 2025, Taylor lost an appeal, and the latest update on her case came in May 2026, when the Supreme Court declined to look into the case any further. As of this writing, Taylor’s execution date has not been finalised by the authorities.
Taylor Parker previously appeared for an interview with journalist, Lawrence Wright, in February 2025 for a New Yorker story. During the conversation, Taylor claimed that she refused to accept the allegations in the beginning, telling herself that everything that was being told about her was not true. However, Taylor witnessed the autopsy pictures, following which she changed her opinion. Furthermore, Taylor seemingly accepted the fact that she belongs in prison, as she said:
“It’s the hardest thing to admit, but I do not believe in going home for myself. My place is here. I stand firm on the belief you do not deserve to have something you took from another. That’s part of the acknowledgement and acceptance process on the road to redemption.”
For the unversed, Taylor Parker and Reagan Simmons-Hancock formed a close bond with each other when the latter got engaged to her boyfriend, Homer Hancock. In 2019, Reagan approached Taylor to take some photographs at her wedding. The pair continued sharing a close friendship after Reagan tied the knot. Reagan was expecting a child in 2020, and Taylor claimed the same thing at that time.
Taylor told Reagan on one occasion that she was expecting to get induced. The latter’s sister, Emily, claimed in the new Netflix documentary that Taylor never gave any stranger-like feelings to anyone and even appeared in many of the pictures taken during the event. Reagan’s mother, Jessica Brookes, also stated that Taylor attempted to appear as someone always available for Reagan. The situation took a different turn a day after Taylor and Reagan spoke to each other about their pregnancy. The former entered Reagan’s house and abducted her fetus, which was unborn at that time, after murdering the mother, who was 21 years old.
However, the child was not breathing, and Taylor contacted the authorities. Parker allegedly attempted to prove that the baby was her own in front of the police by putting the umbilical cord into her pants. However, the medical staff easily discovered that Taylor Parker was not the mother of the child, and she was immediately arrested. Charges of capital murder and kidnapping were imposed on Taylor in the beginning. The trial started in 2022, where she was found guilty, and she was later convicted on the charges.
