Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleDiljit Dosanjh’s film, Satluj, has been in the headlines ever since it was removed from ZEE5. After battling censorship issues for more than two years, the biographical drama arrived quietly on the platform on July 3, 2026. While it was taken down in two days, the action received widespread criticism on social media, with multiple personalities from the entertainment industry also questioning the reasons behind it.
Meanwhile, the public support for the film has not ended yet, as a Gurdwara Management Committee has now decided to organise screenings and seminars. Keep reading to know more!
Although Satluj was removed from ZEE5 two days after its release, the pirated copies of the film started emerging on multiple platforms. Notably, Diljit Dosanjh also reacted by saying that once something goes online, it cannot be removed permanently. He was also satisfied with the fact that the movie was able to reach a lot of people in a short period.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, also called DSGMC, has opposed the action of ZEE5, describing it as an attempt to suppress the reality behind everything that happened to Jaswant Singh Khalra.
On July 7, 2026, DSGMC announced public screenings of the film and seminars focused on the work done by Khalra over the years. Harmeet Singh Kalka, the president of DSGMC, shared a statement, which says that they have already asked all the Gurdwara committee members to download the film and start the screenings in the places where they reside. Harmeet continued by saying:
“We will soon convene a meeting with the chairpersons of our schools and colleges. Seminars on Jaswant Singh Khalra will be organised in every college to discuss his life and legacy. We want people to realise the impact a single social activist can have on society. If one individual can achieve so much, there is no reason why we cannot all work together to do the same.”
Harmeet said that the movie has shown that a social activist brought the truth to everyone by recovering the evidence of the bodies that were cremated as unclaimed. He stated that Jaswant Singh Khalra also raised the issue on an international level.
After Satluj was removed from ZEE5, the OTT platform shared a statement, saying that it happened due to current developments. However, they said that they were working to ensure that the film returns to ZEE5 and requested people not to support piracy.
On the other hand, a government official recently claimed that the removal was a result of pro-Khalistani content featured in the film. The official said that the orders to remove the film were provided for security-related issues under Section 69A of the IT Act. The official continued by saying that an Inter-Departmental Committee constituted under the IT Rules, 2021, will now look into the matter.
Section 69A of the IT Act allows the government to stop the broadcast of any online content to protect the sovereignty, integrity, defence, and security of India, alongside the country’s relations with foreign states, public order, or prevent incitement to the commission of any cognisable offence. During an interview, RP Singh, a spokesperson for the BJP, said:
“The censor board had not cleared the film Satluj, following which it was released on an OTT platform. The government has since stopped the film from being streamed. The government has now constituted a review committee, following which a decision will be taken.”
