The actor, who was best known for his role in the film, The Five Heartbeats, passed away on August 19, 2026, and the news was confirmed by Susan on August 21, 2026. Amid his fans mourning his passing, his cause of death was also revealed recently. So, let's learn what caused Michael Wright's passing.
What is Marchiafava- Bignami that caused Michael Wright's passing at the age of 70?
Susan Wright revealed to NBC News that Michael Wright died on August 19, 2026, at the UCI Medical Centre in California. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife and kids. It was also revealed that the cause of Michael's death was Machado-Bignami disease, a rare degenerative neurological disease, along with complications from heart failure.
TMZ also learnt from his family and revealed that the actor died due to heart failure complications from Marchiafava-Bignami disease, from which he had been suffering since 2015 (revealed by NBC). Marchiafava-Bignami is a degenerative neurological disease, a progressive brain disorder in which the tissues and central nerve fibres in the corpus callosum, the nerve bridge that connects the two halves of the brain, are damaged and die. This condition also causes a range of neurological issues like confusion and memory loss, changes in behaviour, trouble walking or moving, seizures and changes in consciousness.
Michael Wright's wife, Susan, a talent manager, mourned the actor's passing in an earlier statement. In the note, she spoke about the legacy the actor had left behind. Susan revealed that, as a father, husband and friend, there was a side to the actor that could never be seen through the most amazing portrayals he did on screen. Wright was blessed with five kids, and he had always kept his personal life away from the media glare. In her statement, Susan also requested privacy during the tough time that the family has been enduring with the passing of the talented actor.

The actor played 'Omar White' in the series Oz and also appeared in shows such as Law & Order, New York Undercover, and Miami Vice.
