Recently, 'Dhurandhar 2's' SFX supervisor, Vishal Tyagi, revealed that no CGI was used during Ranveer Singh's climax scene and that the explosions were created using 500 litres of fuel.
April might be coming to an end, but this does not mean the hype surrounding Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which was released in March 2026, has died down even a little. Cinemaholics have praised the film for its well-crafted plot, unexpected twists, and fitting background scores. However, the biggest highlight of the Ranveer Singh starrer was its high-octane action sequences and explosive set pieces.
Now, during a recent podcast appearance with Hindi Rush, Dhurandhar 2's SFX supervisor, Vishal Tyagi, revealed that all the explosions in the film were real. This includes the massive climax sequence featuring Ranveer Singh and Arjun Rampal, which took about 500 litres of petrol to create.
During his appearance on the podcast, Durandhur's SFX supervisor, Vishal Tyagi, opened up about how he is usually tasked with creating smaller explosions. He said that these are later enhanced with the help of CGI. However, when it comes to Dhudhandar, the same approach was not followed. According to him, Aditya Dhar explicitly stated that he did not want to use CGI, especially for the explosions. Talking about the climax scene in the movie with Ranveer Singh, he said:
"Jo last waala tanker blast tha, that was the toughest. Usmein sabse bada safety concern tha. Imagine 500 litres of petrol. All the fragments in that blast were real. Ranveer was walking in close proximity, and I had to make sure the flames did not reach Ranveer. We did all the work and precisely told Ranveer Singh where he could start walking. Humne actually Dhurandhar mein khoon paseena diya hai.”
Vishal further shared that, as per the initial plans, Arjun Rampal was also supposed to be in the shot, but he had to be removed before the explosion due to safety concerns. He confessed that he was super worried about Ranveer during the filming of this sequence, but interestingly, the actor himself appeared calm. This is because Ranveer fully trusted the team's precision and the detailed briefings he received before the stunt was executed.
Apparently, even after they had finished filming and wrapped up, the team decided to stay behind and watch the explosion. This also includes Arjun Rampal. When the shot was completed successfully, Ranveer Singh praised the team by saying, “Faad diya tune.” Sharing more details about the sequence, and especially its scale, Vishal admitted that he had a lot of production pressure on him. He said that to create the explosion, they had used a real train base and containers. Adding how much fuel and explosives were used to create the perfect explosion, he said:
"It was very challenging, but we were confident. Production told me to use 250 litres, but I was adamant that at least 500 litres of fuel was required. To make that explode, I also had to add 25 kilos of explosive in each of these tanks to get the right effect. Maine suna sabki, ki apne mann ki.”
In Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Ranveer Singh dons a fierce avatar as he traces the journey from ‘Jaskirat Singh Rangi' to ‘Hamza.’ The storyline of the spy thriller centres around ‘Hamza’ as he tries to dismantle a terror network which is targeting India. The film has received positive reviews from both viewers and critics. According to reports, Dhurandhar 2 has also seen tremendous success at the box office, grossing over Rs. 1,750 crore worldwide to date. This makes it the third-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Furthermore, it is the first Bollywood movie that has managed to cross Rs. 1,000 crore net in India.
