Malayalam megastar, Mammootty, has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan in the 2026 Padma Awards for his distinguished service in the field of Art. This honour, announced by the Government of India on the eve of Republic Day, recognises his prolific cinematic career spanning over five decades and more than 400 films. The Ministry of Home Affairs named Mammootty as the recipient of the award on January 25, 2026. This recognition comes 28 years after he was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998.
Notably, the news arrived while Mammootty was in Thiruvananthapuram to receive his ninth Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Bramayugam (2024). Sulfath Kutty is the wife of legendary Indian actor, Mammootty and the mother of popular actor, Dulquer Salmaan. She is widely regarded as Mammootty's stabilising force and pillar of strength. While he worked outside to earn for his family, she stayed in to take care of the household and the kids. She maintained a low public profile, focusing on her role as a homemaker. Sulfath has remained an integral part of the actor's life for over four decades of acting career. The couple has together built a life full of love and mutual respect. Unconventional to most actors, Mammootty and Sulfath Kutty's love story began after they tied the knot. The couple had an arranged marriage, and before that, they were practically strangers. The Kalamkaval actor worked as a lawyer when his parents insisted he tie the knot, so they arranged a meeting with some eligible maidens. However, it was the third girl who stole Mammootty's heart at first sight, and she was none other than his now-wife, Sulfath. His parents also liked the girl and said 'yes' instantly. Sulfath Kutty started her spousal life with 'lawyer, Mammootty', before he became 'superstar, Mammootty'. Surumi is married to Dr. Mohammed Rehan Sayeed, a cardiac surgeon, and they have two children. Dulquer Salmaan married Amal Sufiya, an architect, in 2011.
