Nirmal Purja's Wife Suchi Revealed How She Managed 'Stress' Caused By Her Husband's Risky Job

Nims Purja's wife, Suchi Purja, opened up about how she dealt with the stress caused by her late husband's dangerous mountaineering ventures.

Nirmal 'Nims' Purja's tragic demise has left the mountaineering world mourning. He passed away after facing a devastating avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan on July 30, 2026. The 43-year-old was hit by a massive slide at approximately 6,600 to 7,000 meters in height, which claimed his life. The tragedy brought to focus Nims' family, particularly his wife, Suchi Purja, and her role in his life and career. She once revealed how she managed the stress caused by her husband's life-threatening job.

Suchi Purja developed a hack to manage stress caused by Nims Purja's risky job

Suchi Purja was very supportive of her husband, Nims Purja's mountaineering ventures. However, just like any other spouse, she was concerned about his well-being and admitted that it was quite "stressful" to deal with as a family member. During her appearance at the Kay Burley Show, she was asked about her mental state and stress management procedure when her husband was out on his mountaineering expeditions.

Suchi revealed that she was definitely worried, but she developed a specific hack to keep herself calm and stress-free. As per her, the only way she would not think too much about Nims' work was by keeping herself busy. She stated that she voluntarily chose to do most of the behind-the-scenes work for her husband's 'Project Possible', which was aired on Netflix as the documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible.

Nims' better half was "extremely obviously proud of him" and his work, but at the end of the day she was his closest family member, and being worried about him was natural. However, she is a strong-willed woman who knew how to deal with someone who had big dreams and the hunger to achieve something remarkable. Sharing her process of dealing with his intense career, Suchi Purja stated:

"Obviously the past few months has been obviously very stressful as a family as well so...but I try to obviously not stress as much as possible and try to keep myself busy. I'm obviously helping him with most of the background work and everything for the project as well. So keeping myself busy in that sense."

Nims Purja credited his wife for her constant support and sacrifice for his work

When Nims was awarded an honorary doctorate, he dedicated the accolade to his wife. He asked Suchi, who was seated in the audience, to stand up so that everybody in the room gets to see the one whose support led him to the achievement. Addressing Suchi as "my love", Nims shared that her silent backing and sacrifices are what led him to achieve his dreams. He shared the challenges of working in the busy unit, SBS, and thanked his wife for never complaining about his lifestyle.

Nims Purja praised her resilience and the sacrifices she made managing the family on her own. The mountaineer was glad that she understood that he wouldn't be around 24/7. Saying "thank you sweetheart" for her contribution in his life, he mentioned:

"I would also like to dedicate this honour to my beautiful wife, Suchi...Ladies and gentlemen you know I serve in the most busiest unit in the world, SBS and the best. We call it water missing cycle. She was with me there and from there to now I spent 11 months away from the family on the big mountains. I run nine different companies and I'm still breaking the world records. Without Suchi I wouldn't be who I am today."
